An early start

I never have trouble falling asleep, but getting back to sleep after waking up is a different matter. I seem to go through phases when I wake up early in the morning and can’t get back to sleep.
Last night I went to bed quite early for me, at about 10:30 pm. I’m not sure why but I was just feeling really tired all day yesterday and I was looking forward to a good sleep. So it was annoying when I woke up at about 4 am.
First I lay there for a while trying to decide if I was too hot/ too cold/ thirsty/ needed the toilet etc. Decided on three of the four so I got up, had a drink and went to the toilet; it was 4:15. It was still just starting to get light and I could hear the birds waking up outside. Feeling cooler I got back in bed thinking I had plenty of time to get some more sleep before needing to start on the day, but an hour later I was still there feeling like I was just wasting time.
Finally I got up and made a start. I have at least ordered an outdoor light I wanted, read a bit of news (I always end up wasting some of my morning on this so may as well do it early!), checked some accounts and made a bit more progress on my work. Now it’s time to take Little One to school.
I think I will be needing a nap later. Normally I only drink a couple of cups of coffee a day so I know it’s a bad day when I’m on my second cup of coffee and it’s only 7:30 am!

I wake up after two to four hours of sleep at pee o'clock, then come back to bed and check in on myLot... I usually catch up notifications and then go back to sleep again. It seems to work well for me.
I hope you enjoy your day.

I seem to have a phase of waking up at silly times, then it passes, then another will start randomly. I used to take my laptop upstairs and if I couldn't sleep I would do a bit of work and also pop on here like you. I had a little USB light so I didn't have to put any of the lamps on. Then after a couple of hours often I would feel sleepy and I could go back to sleep for the last hour or so - we have decent curtains in the bedroom. Still my partner eventually complained that the light disturbed him, so now if I wake up and want to do something I have to get up and go downstairs, and once I'm properly up and it's daylight that's it really.

@Fleura We have blackout curtains everywhere except the kitchen. It's just my luck that if I go into the kitchen at night, the dog next door starts barking and won't stop. I hate it waking other people up but at least they blame the neighbor that owns the dog and not me for waking them up.
You could offer to let your hubby sleep in his own bedroom so you turning on your little light wouldn't disturb him. I wonder what he'd say to that?

@DaddyEvil I did suggest that perhaps we should have our own bedrooms. He often goes to bed before me and I don't want to disturb him but after several nights of creeping about my own house in the dark, cleaning my teeth by torchlight and all that sort of thing, and then getting up and creeping about in the morning, I did think it might be more sensible. But he was horrified.

Most days I wake up between 4 and 4:30 a.m. I have a look at my alarm and I decide to stay in bed a little longer. When I hear my husband moving and I know he is also awake I get up to prepare breakfast. It is always between 5:00 and 5:30 in the morning.

I like to be up early in the morning, but I also stay up late at night (usually go to bed around 11:30) so consistently getting up at this time wouldn't work for me. I think a sleep in the afternoon would be my ideal regimen but that doesn't fit with school hours!

The same has been happening to me on and off in the last couple of weeks. Usually I go to bed around 11pm and wake up 7:30 to 8 no alarm needed, but lately I've been waking up before 6am unable to go back to sleep and I really do miss that extra hour. Also a coffee drinker but black tea(one cup) helps me more with energy during the day. Hang in there!

That appears to be me as well. I usually sleep in the wee hours of dawn because I'm a night person. But yesterday I slept at 10 pm thinking I should catch on more with sleep. But I woke up at around 4:30 and no matter how I tried to go back to sleep, I couldn't. So I just woke up and helped my DIL prepare the kids for school.

My normal to get up is 4 in the morning. I was a bit early and so I went back to sleep and realise it was already 5 past when I woke up. I am grateful that I have no problem getting back to sleep and the funniest part is in that short span I dream as well (lol)

It sometimes takes me forever to fall asleep and then I still wake up early. Sometimes if I just lie there, I'll go back to sleep but mostly I get up. I always tell myself I can have a nap later if I need it. Sometimes, it's handy being retired.

I often wake up between 11 PM-3 AM, sometimes it's hard to go back to sleep. I will do some activities, usually a few hours after which I will fall back asleep and sleep again until morning.
