My Favorite "Rock" Titled Songs- #5
One of the things I look forward to come spring is watching my favorite baseball team. I've suffered through many seasons where it felt like my New York Mets hit "Rock Bottom." But on occasion they would have a season like last year where they rocked it out of the park" with 101 wins. Kind of like a song on the record charts which hits a home run...
So, with that in mind, here are this week's rock-titled tunes which hit home runs for me.
Comments, musings, your own favorite rock titled songs and trivia always welcome...
1. "Loves Me Like a Rock"- Paul Simon
Seems this guy who grew up in Queens, NY, didn't need a sidekick after all when he parted ways with Art Garfunkel. His tune reached #2 on the record charts in 1973. It featured the backing vocals of "the Dixie Hummingbirds," a Southern black gospel group. Their inspired singing added a spiritual feeling to the track.
Who do... it's a great video performance by Rhymin' Simon! Check it out...
TRIVIA CHALLENGE
***Now for our trivia music challenge for those who like to play along. See if you can guess these selections. Words in "quote marks" provide valuable clues!
Name this week's tune, artist or facts:
1. This tune which reached the top ten in 1972, was "adopted as one of Colorado's state songs" in 2007. The track was recorded by this "folk performer" who made his home in "Aspen, Colorado." He was inspired by the Perseid Meteor Shower which occurs in his "home state" every August. Another of his songs, "Take Me Home Country Roads," was also adopted by West Virginia as their state song. This singer who tragically was "killed in a plane crash" in 1997, also did some acting, appearing with "George Burns" in the smash "movie hit, Oh, God!"
-Can you name this Acoustic Folk singer and his Rock-titled song?
2. This "Detroit artist" really paid his dues in the music business before achieving mainstream success. It wasn't until his album "Night Moves" in 1976, that this rock n' roller hit the Billboard charts and found a mainstream audience in a big way. One of his song's "Like a Rock," was used in an "advertising campaign for Chevrolet trucks" that ran from 1991 - 2004, giving this track even more popularity than when it was first released.
-Do you know the name of this "Michigan rocker" who eventually found his own "Hollywood Nights" of success?
3. This "British Band" which formed in "1964" is still active, although only two members are alive from the original four. The group released a very commercially successful album in 1969 called "Tommy," a Rock Opera about a deaf, dumb, and blind boy. In 1972 they recorded a rock-titled song called "Long Live Rock," but never released it, and instead began work on another rock opera called "Quadrophenia" instead. The tune was eventually released as a single in 1979.
-What English band recorded this rock-titled song?
Hope you were "ready to rock" when figuring out the music trivia. If you're stuck and need additional hints just let me know in your response. I'll be glad to supply one. Or, as Billy Swan would say, "I Can Help."
Thanks for reading and responding to my music post!!! I will return with a new edition soon. Hope you can wait till then, lol. Stay tuned...

You're a "Rock Star."
Turn the Page- one of my favorite Seger tunes too. The road life is not all fun and games as Bob so aptly says in this tune.
