I have one more reason to be thankful!

Most of you probably have no idea how important this picture is to me. I took it this morning when my dad got up to preach for the first time in three months. You might remember he had 6 vertebrae replaced in his neck, and they expected he'd be back in the pulpit in 6 weeks. However, his voice just wouldn't come back. One last procedure didn't seem to be working, but he had a lot of people praying for him. He was scheduled to return June 11th because his voice was still not back to normal, but there was a mix up on who was filling in today. I found out yesterday he was going to preach today, and I knew I had to be there. I grew up in church: Sunday morning, Sunday night, and Wednesday night. Since I've been in so much pain for so long my attendance has been more than spotty. But I was going to go this morning! And when my dad saw me his eyes about popped out of his head! Only he, Diana (his wife), me, and the song leader knew he was speaking this morning because he didn't want to make a big deal about it. When it became apparent he was going to be the one speaking today everyone started applauding. And then I got up to take this picture, and told him to smile. And @Juliaacv when he was done preaching...he sang! Thank you to everyone who prayed. He won't be preaching again until June 11th which is good for the sake of his voice, but I'm thankful we know for sure he's coming back.

Oh thank heavens. All of our prayers worked to deliver his voice in song. I am so happy for him and for you to have been able to hear him. You got your miracle.

Thats a wonderful shot. I can't imagine what he's going through and I've had a diskectomy done to the upper spine in 1996 which was bad enough but to have 6 vertebrae replaced is a whole nother thingy. I'm glad he's recovered so well.

Thank you. You know first hand then how sketchy is to have anything done with your spine.

Oh yeah, spine surgery is very scary. I was in a neck brace for 3 months then was told that for the rest of my life I cannot bend my head too far forward, backward or side to side, I'm always careful.

Miracles do happen, and it happened to your dad. I hope his recovery would be continuous after June 11, I will be praying for him too, just as your whole religious family prays for him. I can see he's a strong person. God bless him and your family.

Yes, thank you, Marie, it is. My sister was bummed not to be there (she had wanted to come for his first sermon back), but she said a picture was the next best thing.

@Tampa_girl7 Two and a half hours away. He didn’t want me telling even her, but I texted her yesterday, maybe thinking I should (since I knew she wanted to see his return), and when she said she had the flu I thought, no, why tell her when she can’t come anyway. So I texted her after the service with a picture.

He's got the power behind it back, which was big. It had no force behind it for so long we didn't think even a really good microphone would be sufficient for him to get up and speak. It can still get a little raspy, and after 2pm it starts to go in and out after being used so much. However, it continues to improve each and every day. Absolutely, praise God! Yesterday, he sounded absolutely like he always had: no shakiness or rasp at all.

The name of the hymn is "I Will Sing of My Redeemer", and it starts: I will sing of my Redeemer, And His wondrous love to me; On the cruel cross He suffered, Paid the debt, and made me free. Sing, oh, sing of my Redeemer, With His blood He purchased me, On the cross He sealed my pardon, Paid the debt, and made me free. I actually hadn't remembered the hymn until he started singing it, but I love a good hymn.

I am not into those kind of things but that is cool in my book. I am glad served as a healing purpose and brought you all closer. People say and do a lot of things but not many back their words by action and why I think its cool. It does not matter whether I believe what you believe but I believe what I see.

I actually hesitated to post about it because I know how cynical people are in God and the people who claim to serve Him. But I think that’s ME being the judgmental one, and I knew mylotters would would understand I just want to celebrate something that at one time I thought we’d never get back. If you have the time, check out my post on Peanut Butter and Jesus. You hit the nail on the head with your reply here, and that post mentions your important point.
