Major League Baseball implemented several new rules this season. These were designed to speed up the game and in some cases make the game safer according to MLB. With the season almost a third of the way through I was wondering how some of you feel about the new rules. Adding a new pitch clock, limiting pick off attempts and bigger bases are the most notable changes. What do you think? Do you like the changes?

I can't believe I'm saying this, but sometimes the games go too fast for me. I'll turn on a game, and I'm like, wait, it's in the 7th inning already? They did it to keep the interest of younger fans although who knows if that will do it. I DO appreciate the pitch clock, and the fact that they make the batters stay in the batter's box. I don't know how old you are, but do you remember Nomar Garciaparra? That man would never survive today's game! After every pitch he'd step out of the box, undo, redo, undo, and redo his gloves. After every single pitch. The man was nice to look at (although he was no Derek Jeter), but he drove me nuts with his superstitious rituals. Overall, I'm pleased with the changes. Getting rid of the shift was the biggest improvement of all.
*I checked your profile: you definitely have to remember Nomar.

Going into the season I was opposed to the new rules. I have come to be able to accept them without much negativity. The games do go way to fast as you said. Doing away with the shift is one that I am still undecided on. I understand why they did it but in my opinion professional ball players should be able to hit. Nomar did take forever. And thanks for your comments. I have been away for a while from myLot and this is my first post in years.

@buldwgz Oh, I absolutely agree that professional baseball players should be able to hit "wherever the other players ain't". But considering these knuckleheads couldn't or wouldn't work on it, I finally started rooting for the ban of the shift. I mean, I got to the point where the 3rd baseman would be at the 2nd base man's position, and I'd yell at the screen for the guy at the plate to bunt! I was that tired of seeing a groundout straight into the shift.
Although, I will say the league better not forget their core audience aren't the teeny boppers, no matter how hard they try to draw them in. They better not go too far, and alienate us " older" () folks. We shell out the real money to watch these games after all.
In addition, welcome back to mylot! People rarely post about sports so I get excited when I see someone start a discussion about baseball, football, or basketball. Baseball is my first love though.

Agree.Thrill and excitement are the two keywords these days for any sport which is popular and generates revenue. Here in my continent Cricket is popular and came up with a new Avatar called IPL season.. With due respect to the popularity, craze and excitement, I see the pressure on the players clearly. There's too much money involved in these games taking toll on players' health. Is this right? Do you have a similar story there?

Hello @buldwgz and welcome back to myLot. The site has changed a bit since you were last here in 2011 so you might want to refresh your recollection of the Guidelines etc which can all be found here.
