What Not To Say….

As someone that lives with mental disability, sometimes people who don’t understand mental illness wind up saying all the wrong things in their attempt to “help.” The picture I’m sharing here I found under Yahoo search when I was looking up Mental Health Awareness. I hope it helps you or someone you know to understand what not to say. Mental illness is not something you can just wish it away. It is a chemical imbalance in the brain which makes it a brain disorder. I’ve had mental disabilities most of my life so I’ve learned to educate those who really want to understand, and ignore those who choose to remain ignorant. I’m not ashamed of my disability. I don’t allow it to define me as a person but I do allow it to give me the strength to overcome so many obstacles.
So remember, acceptance and understanding is all it takes to allow those with a disability such as this not to feel shame over something they never asked for.

I truly agree with you, it is very rude to speak anyhow to such people

I especially love people who suggest you really shouldn't be on medication, and should try "natural" remedies. Do you think people just go straight to the pharmacy and beg for the heavy duty stuff? Certainly not most! You don't think counseling is or has been involved? Aromatherapy ain't going to fix the problem.
If one hasn't suffered from a mental illness, they really should think twice about offering a platitude.

@MistyckMoon I’m sorry if I sound a little too forceful. I have just heard it too often, and I empathize.
