A fun last guitar lesson today!

Joe and Kaleena are a husband and wife team I teach near the end of my Wednesday nights at Guitar Center. Tonight they were my last students. A no-show meant we had extra time, so we had big happy fun. Joe was on crutches due to an ankle sprain. I taught them John Prine's The Accident, to honor Joe's injury. Then Kaleena mentioned a time she had hurt her ankle descending a trailer while drink on tequila. I said that I had never been in a trailer, and that I had never been drunk on tequila. Then I said "whistling emoji." By the time we were doing The Accident, we were all laughing. The mood had been established. We then "co-wrote" a song about tequila and its effects on ones common sense. At the end of the lesson, I gave them a choice of "gifts" we had on hand as part of our music lessons promotion. I declared it a prize for "most devoted students of the week." They happily accepted a blow-up beach ball. If all of my lessons were this much fun I'd add more hours to my schedule. I wouldn't drink a lot tonight since you still have to have fun at work tomorrow night, too. I'm glad you had fun tonight, though.

It really does. The only time I don't particularly enjoy a student is when they're unmotivated and haven't practiced at all since our last lesson.

I think that's a reasonable term. I want playing music to be a joyous and self-expressive (if that's a word) experience for all of my students.
