A Semi-Fix to a Previous Problem

So some of you might remember my discussion, “I don’t know how to fix it.”, which was about our trash collector not emptying 2 dumpsters in my apartment complex because people living in the neighborhood behind me kept dumping their unwanted furniture, mattresses, and overall junk in those dumpsters, piling them too high for the garbage men to agree to pick them up. Eventually, management seemed to quit hauling these unwanted items away, and was letting the junk overflow. Add to that, I just didn’t think the owners of this place would pay for security cameras to catch any culprits. And they didn’t. However, there seemed to be another option my apartment manager found when she dug deeper into the problem. See, the manager pays a male resident here a small amount to go around, pick up random trash, and dog poop. One day, the garbage man was debating whether to empty those dumpsters, and that resident went up to him, and told him to do his effing job. It was completely classless, and he never should have treated him so poorly. Apparently, to be petty, the man then and there decided not to empty those dumpsters from then on. While I can understand his ire, it shouldn’t have been an excuse to leave us in the mess he left us in. I had wondered why the height of the garbage had been thrown out there because many times the dumpsters had been piled high, but still emptied. Anyway, my apartment manager finally tracked down the supervisors of the garbage man, and they instructed him to start emptying those dumpsters again; despite the unwanted junk from the neighbors behind us. What a relief! My apartment manager personally apologized to the garbage man for that resident’s behavior, so it probably won’t happen again. Because apparently, nothings stops those neighbors. Do you have any updates to your discussions you want to share?

I'm glad the management talked to the garbage people and they will empty the dumpsters again. My only update would be that the sinus infection is gone.

Well that is a relief. A sad update I have is that I went to get my Shingles shot yesterday, and because I don't have Medicare Part D they wouldn't do it! I was ticked because Humana my provider told me it would be covered. They should have known what Medicare parts I had...anyway, all might not be lost though, as I think the health department may have these shots available. I will tell you one thing, I am not paying 200 bucks for the shot.

That's just wrong. I certainly hope the health department indeed has the shots. And I wouldn't pay $200 either; who can afford that?

I'm glad your problem is finally solved. The manager did well in tracking the cause of the root of the problem. That's how problems should be solved by determining their root cause or origin. I think I have no existing updates to my discussions. Happy MyLotting.

What a shame that no one can put a stop to those inconsiderate ja's that keep dumping in your dumpsters, I hope your apt manager finds some city department that will investigate and charge those people for illegally dumping their trash into her bins.

In my opinion, the apartment manager should have reprimanded the apartment dweller who disposed of the unwanted trash, so that he would pay additional trash money to the garbage man, because the garbage he disposed of exceeded the reasonable limit.

Ohhhhh, now I see there was a bit of behind-the-story. Yah, even though that resident shouldn't have said what he said, the garbage person shouldn't have been spiteful about it - a job is a job that needs to be fulfilled. Well I'm glad the manager straightened things out . . . at least part of that was taken care of. Now for the neighbors . . .

I am glad that the management arrived to fix this problem and now the man empty the dumpsters. Those people have been extremely rude and not polite, I hope the management can also have a word with them.

Well, somebody eventually did their job. Why does no one confront the neighbors behind you that are causing the problem. Perhaps the police need to get involved if what they are doing is against a fire code or some other offense. Just curious.

Because no one with any authority catches them doing it. Mostly, they come at night, and the manager is gone, and there is no point in calling the police because they'll be gone by then. The residents who see them doing it confront them about it, and usually get cursed at or ignored for telling them they are breaking the law. They just aren't intimidated by us. Another problem is that frequently we don't see them at all. We just know it's them because residents know how to leave their furniture to be picked up (because they WILL pick it up if you do it right, and it is only one item at a time). Since residents know how how to leave them out there, we know they aren't going to take the chance of being fined for doing it that way. It just doesn't benefit them. As for the police, they would need to either see them do it in the act (which they never do), or they need camera evidence. And management is too cheap to buy cameras. We would need footage showing their license plate, and a clear photo of them.

@AmbiePam Wow! Your community is stuck between a rock and a hard place for sure. It's too bad you don't know their address so management or someone there could file a formal complaint to the police department. Then at least the police could investigate and confront them personally at their residence. But even that probably would not stop them. Glad the garbage man will at least pick up the trash/furniture. You community should not suffer due to these morons!
