This is a picture taken from the second floor of the First Americans Museum in Oklahoma City. This view doesn't quite express how large this "mural" is, but the picture I took from the 1st floor had a glare. My friend took this picture & texted it to me. I thought it was just gorgeous, so I wanted to share it. It is supposed to represent the past, present, and future of the many tribal communities in Oklahoma; a Cherokee tribe member designed it.
So this weekend I went with my friend, Dominique to the First Americans Museum because she had been wanting to visit for months, and thought it would be fun to go together. Unfortunately, just walking the first floor for an hour and 45 minutes took my back out. A couple of times, I thought I was going down! We then went to the restaurant found inside the museum, which was quite impressive. I had a 39 Bison Burger, which consisted of "Benjamin Lee Bison, Toasted Potato Bun, Garlic Sage Aioli, 39 Jam, Fried Onions, Arugula, and Squash Pickles". It was delicious. After that though, I had to give her a hug, and go home while she went to discover the 2nd floor. I just couldn't walk anymore than I had. However, I enjoyed seeing what I did, and it was always a pick me up to see my friend.
Do you remember the last museum you visited? I don't go to a lot anymore, but last year I did see the Laura Ingalls Wilder museum in Missouri. Do you have museums in mind you'd like to see?
*Just in case it's confusing for any people reading from overseas, " First Americans" is another name for "Native Americans".
*The 39 Restaurant is so named for the 39 distinctive First American Nations still residing in the state of Oklahoma today.

Walking for that many minutes must have been quite a task for you. Good you did not pursue further.
My last visit was to the Madame Tussauds Museum years ago

I like that, First Americans sounds a lot better than indigenous but I don't count, I wonder what Native Americans think given that the white man has lumped all Native American tribes into 1 unit. I guess the white man has done the same with his own race given that all white people could be from at least 100 countries.

I get so many different opinions from the few I know. The oldest person I know still calls himself an “Indian”. Five members of one family I know refers to their ethnicity as being Native American. The other two people I know, and I just know them casually, say Native American as well. It’s only through these museums I have learned even more prefer the term “First Americans”, which I like the sound of, and like you, think it is a heck of a lot better than indigenous. Indigenous sounds so generic.
You make very good points about lumping groups all into one.

@rebelann I can understand that being the case, but yes, you are right, it is a shame there isn't one where you live. It would just make sense to me, to have one somewhere nearby.
I included a picture of the hill they built outside the museum to perform ceremonies on. It was bigger than the picture makes it seem, but you weren't supposed to go outside to get a closer look that particular day.

I only know what are called hispanic people, most have roots in either in Mexico or south America, I've met a couple Apache people but didn't get the opportunity to actually get to know them, they were rightfully skeptical of me.
I wish more First Americans would share their tribal names with us the way Europeans share their country origins.
I wish there was a museum about First Americans like the one you went to here but in El Paso many long time residents here are promoting Mexican culture or else south American culture.

I'm so glad your parents got to go, but I hope you do too. I included a picture of her house on the museum property. It was the smaller house, the one before her daughter built her a new one, but it was my favorite of the two. I wish they had let us take pictures of the inside.

When Pretty was in her late teens and earlier, we often visited animal museums but I've never been interested in other types of museums.
That mural is beautiful, though.

@DaddyEvil I thought the Oklahoma City botanical gardens were amazing as our school would usually take us once a year on a field trip. Unfortunately, I had such a hard time with the heat and humidity essential for the health of the environment.

That must have been a massive museum for you to be touring the first floor for more than an hour. I too, would opt out. More than an hour of walking would exhaust me. It's great that you enjoyed the experience and that you're happy.
The last time I went to a museum was three months ago. I and my sister visited the Clark Museum where the American Air Base was once located. It was small but it displayed interesting things, among others, the Pinatubo eruption, (which was the final ticket for the American Bases to close shop), some local cultures, and many others.
After that, I had no chance to visit other museums.
I took the photo above when we were there.

@AmbiePam Probably. There's only one museum in my city and I had been there. If I want to visit a museum again, I need to fly to another city.

Whenever I go to a museum I always spend ages there examining everything! The last museum we went to was on our holiday in Jersey - in fact I haven't finished writing about that trip!
What does the '39' indicate, by the way? The burger sounds delicious. Glad you spent time with a friend, and hope your back is better today.

Oh, I didn't think of about it, but I probably should have said that the 39 represents the 39 distinctive First American nations still in Oklahoma today. I believe the restaurant itself was called 39.
At first, walking into the museum I didn't think there was enough to look at, but as went further I took a picture of so many things. I think my friend is planning on going back with her mom she enjoyed it so much. She also expressed her desire to try every single thing on the menu over the course of a year!

@Fleura I went back and included an explanation because the random 39 did seem odd. Yes, the museum is only about 25 minutes away, and thankfully easy to get to. It would be the perfect thing to eventually visit with my oldest niece.
I completely agree with you about the almost banned status of Laura Ingalls Wilder's books. It is an absolute joke, and I question the sanity of the objectors. Several awards given in her name have now been changed to avoid offending anyone, and it's downright unreasonable. I loved her books, and now my oldest niece enjoys the books so much she is begging her mom to get her access to the TV show semi based on the books. She was an incredible author, and her legacy should be remembered.

@AmbiePam I see, that makes sense.
I hope you get a chance to go back as well and see the rest. Is it far from where you live?
By the way I've never been to the Laura Ingalls Wilder museum but I did visit a reproduction of her cabin in Wisconsin where they had a video of her talking about her life and a few odds and ends. I loved her books as a child and I still love them and read them to Big One when she was little. I believe some schools nowadays refuse to even have those books in the library because they think they are racist but that is so wrong.

I like museums, because I love history in general.
I have been to the Laura Ingalls Wilder museum in Walnut Grove, MN but not the one in Mansfield. I want to go there as well. As a child, I dearly loved her books, my girls loved them as well.

Years ago, I visited the National Museum in New Delhi, which showcases diverse arts, artifacts and archaeological discoveries from the country's rich history and culture. But I'm more interested in the Burger, sounds you really had a good bite.

That is a beautiful mural to be honest. Its good that they were able to preserve memories of the past tribes in your place. Its been a while since I visited a museum and its here in my country , we call it the National Museum located at the central city of the Philippines which is Manila. History and memories were also kept on that place ...
