Donating blood.

United States

I went to donate some of my blood yesterday. Since it has been awhile since I donated blood; I had to ask the nurses about the medicine I was taking and if I could still donate my blood because of the medicine. I guess it was alright because I donated my blood. It has been over twenty years since I donated my blood last time.

That is good it was okay with the medicine Keith. Did it take very long to sit there? It was good for you to do so.

Since there was several people ahead of me; it took longer to wait for a table than it took me to donate blood. It took around two and a half hours to donate blood.

I have heard that each pint of blood donated will help three people out.

@Scrapper88 Aww that's so nice of you. That's wonderful. Doesn't it feel good to be able to help not just one but three people out?

That was such a kind thing to do. What made you decide to donate again?

Most blood pressure meds won't hurt anyone if they get your blood. I tried to donate last month and was told that the allergy shots I get each month mean I can't donate anymore.

I showed the nurse the four medicines I was taking. The nurse did not say that these medicines prevented me from donating.

I’ve offered to donate blood but they say I’m too skinny.

@Scrapper88 You have to weigh a certain amount to donate blood. That’s what they told me.

I have not heard about being too skinny as a reason for not taking somebodies blood.

Yay. I have never donated blood my entire life because I always fail the assessment stage. It's good that you did.

I used to donate blood regularly. But I stopped because of medication and hypertension. Maybe I can ask again my doctor if I can donate blood again

Awesome! Man, the last time I donated blood I was a recent high school graduate I think. I started because they brought a blood drive to campus and it happened inside the large basketball gym. I remember donating and felt everything was fine. Once, I was at the table where we relax, I felt a bit dizzy and tried to hold myself up but it was obvious something was not okay. I notified someone and was helped back onto the donate table to lay down for a bit. It was definitely a different experience. I think it may have been due to not having ate well earlier in the day as I donated later in life and the same did not occur lol
