I never thought I would be writing a book. But my niece is the one to inspire me. She told me Aunty why don't you write a book and tell all the kids around the world about it.
She knows time has been hard and her idea wasn't bad. Although I hesitate she keep on insisting to give it a try. So I did. She was so excited that she even had me add her part of the narration. She is 10 but very smart.
Today I told her that our book is on Amazon and she was extremely happy. She said "Aunty you'll see you'll make so many sales and will be debt free soon. Uncle will love you more because you help him."
When she asked how many sales I made so far and I told her none she got sad.
Although I am the author of this book she is the one who gave a lot of ideas of the situation in this book. So I consider it as our book. I don't know if the book will be a success or not anymore. I put it up for free (kindle) so as least kids can read it.
I will try to promote it as soon as I find out how to. Because today she told me that she wants to be an author like me. It brought tears to my eyes. I don't want to discourage her by making our first book a failure.
Her mom is a teacher and her dad is a nurse yet she told me she wants to be like me
Are you an author too? How did you promote your first book? Who's your inspiration?

Good for you getting your book on Amazon. I hope you see some sales. Kindle often offers eBooks for free, but that doesn't mean you won't get a royalty off the price you set for the book. You will. I found that out when Amazon listed my book at less than my cost by way of promoting the book. I knew nothing of the reason why it was listed like that until I finally talked to someone at KDP Direct.

I was doing some research about it too right now. I found out that even when they download it for free, I will get paid for every page they read.
And it's a program that will last for 90 days. I can cancel or renew it if I want. I will try the promotion program as well but I have to wait until 15 July since I am new on KDP.
Thank you so much Val for motivating me and for the advice. Truly this helps a lot.

I really hope your book sells well...
I authored a book of poetry when I was 18. 1,000 copies were printed. I kept two of them and donated one of those to my school and the other to the Public Library in my small city. The rest slowly sold... friends and relatives bought them.

That is so sweet of her, but I can see why she wants to be like you. It is so hard to sell a book on your own with so many books to choose from. It doesn't mean your book isn't good, it just means not enough people came across it. My sister self-published a couple of devotional books, and they sold pretty well. However, I think it was because of the reach she had. She had been writing personal stories in devotions on her Facebook account, and several people told her she should put them into a book so she did. A lot of her FB friends bought one, and then a few pastors asked her to speak at their churches, so she did, and then more copies were sold. She didn't get rich, don't get me wrong, but Facebook had a lot to do with her success. It took time, but it was worth trying.
Hopefully, some fellow Mylot writers will give you lots of helpful ideas. You are a role model in so many ways, and I am so happy your niece sees that.

That's such a beautiful gesture and it's good that they supported her. She is quite good. She should keep on writing. Every little penny helps out. That's the goal.
I hope so too. I don't have any kid but my nieces are my heart. Remember Cookie the makeup girl when she was little she asked me where is my kid and I told her I don't have any. Amber you won't believe it she said "Mommy I'm your baby" I swear that was so touching...I hugged her and cried. It made me so happy hearing her calling me mommy.

@BabeSays Thank you, That’s so nice of you. Val has offered help and information but I have no idea where to start. If I publish I’ll look up all the information and make a study of it to see how to go about it. I appreciate both of you offering.

@RubyHawk The pleasure is all mine, Rudy. Don't hesitate if you have any question.
That's a good beginning. I did so much research too when I was going to start writing my first book. I'm glad you are going to live this dream. Keep up the good work.

Hey Rudy it's never late to do what you love. Write down your poetry, after you're done you can turn it into an ebook and publish it on Amazon or any other site you prefer.
Rudy you can do it. I believe in you. If you need help just message me privately. I will happily guide you through. Also If you are friends with Publishers, you can have them publish it for you.
