What a busy day!!! It began way too early (for me) this morning, when I had to get up before 9 AM because the ADT people came to replace my old security system with a new one. Since the old system wasn’t ADT (it was a DIY system that I do not recommend in the least) they couldn’t use the old ones, nor could they remove them. That’s okay. This evening I got the non-functioning siren taken down off my garage, all while my new video camera recorded me doing it.
Yes, it was expensive. No, I’m not sorry in the least. The most significant thing for me, as I’m getting older and live by myself, is that it has a “panic alarm” that I can push and call the monitoring system immediately if I’m having a medical issue. That’s peace of mind that is hard to put a price tag on!
While they were busy installing I was busy cleaning and re-doing passwords. I closed some accounts I haven’t used in a long time and changed passwords that were over a year old (not many of them, because I frequently change passwords, especially after a rash of spam e-mails).
Speaking of e-mails, I’m changing a lot of e-mail addresses. I have an account that I’m paying for, and it’s nearly doubled in price over the last 18 months. Yes, I’ve had it since 1992; but, no, I’m not that loyal. Not when Google or Yahoo or Apple have free accounts!!!!
This evening I sat outside chatting with some neighbors. That was so cool. I don’t think we (as a society) do that much anymore.
I see that Louisville made the news today. A small Baptist church here in town was kicked out of the Southern Baptist Convention, along with the Saddleback Church in California that was pastored by The Purpose-Driven Life author Rick Warren. Their crime, in the eyes of the Southern Baptist Convention, is that they had women pastors. I’m sure the churches aren’t going to miss the SBC. Given the “mega church” status of the Saddleback Church (average attendance is over 23,000), I’m sure, however, that the Southern Baptist Convention is going to miss that church’s “membership dues.”
My laundry is nearly done, so I’ll finish off a glass of decaf tea and check the baseball scores before I head to bed and three or four hours of reading online.
Y’all have a great evening!

@FourWalls Exactly. It’s more fighting from within, when our real fight should be anywhere but there.

The thing I find funny (in a sad way) about it is that the Southern Baptist Convention is built around the notion that each church is autonomous. So much for that. I hate to see things like that happen, because they’re forgetting what their call is.

I guess Westboro was kicked out long ago, if they even had admission. What a hateful group!

Westboro is an “Independent Baptist” church, not affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention. I think they consider the Southern Baptists “too liberal.”

We have a security system too. If anything should happen to my husband (God forbid), I would get one of those necklace alarms in case I fall down or something. Y'all have a good day!

This has a medical “panic alarm,” too, which I greatly appreciate.

@LindaOHio — no. That’s why the fire department carries axes.

@FourWalls Does the Fire Department or Police Department have access to a key? I'm reluctant to put it in one of those lock boxes. They can be broken into.

Sounds like you have made some good personal safety choices lately. Not very many people sit and visit, that is true.

It’s good so far! I need to tweak the video cameras so they don’t show birds flapping around, but that’s easy enough.

You certainly sound very busy these days. It seems like that to me also but I have to go back and read my calendar to see what I really did then. Hopefully I will get back on here again. It seems like I have been doing a lot of nothings.

I hope I never hear what it really “sounds” like. ADT is the largest security system in America, and if I pay more for the “Cadillac” of cell phones (the iPhone) why shouldn’t I to have the best security system?
As I mentioned to Anna, the debate over women pastors isn’t new. The Southern Baptists are the largest Protestant denomination in the US, so that makes it “newsworthy.” But other churches (notably, the Episcopal Church USA) have had splits and controversies over the subject going back to the late 70s.
