Brendel Is Not Feeling Well

I stay concerned about one of my cats, Brendel. She turns 14 soon. I realize it is normal for her to slow down at this age. She has chronic bronchitis and kidney disease.
She did not eat anything yesterday except a couple of treats. And she started sneezing two days ago, day and night. But no drainage. She is drinking plenty of water. She does not want my other cat, the Dude, around her. She prefers being left alone. I brush her and spend time with her, talking to her, etc. She is purring when I am around her.
I called her Vet and he said there is really nothing we can do except give her an IV of fluids if I feel she is dehydrated. He sort of leaves it up to me, since I am around her 24/7. For now I will keep watching her and keep her as comfortable as possible. The Dude goes over and checks on her several times a day. He really is a sweet brother to her.
Will catch up with you all as time allows. I hope you are doing good. Snapped this photo of Brendel all curled up in the screen room this morning.

@CarolDM I know what you mean since losing my cat Relish due to old age was painful as he was in his final years of life.

I would call the vet back and ask if they offer cord ozone shots. They can help with pain and open up the nasal passages. They aren't hard on the kidneys either. Chilly gets them every few months when he's in a flare. You can also ask about getting Bryndal to take Benadryl for her nose, too. Some vets don't think of those things, unless you ask.

@CarolDM Not a problem. All my cats wound up with sinus issues, and in the past we were told to just wait it out, too. But, in recent years, we've been told about these things. Been real life savers for our kitties.

@kaylachan All information I really needed. I appreciate you. I really worry when she gets anything, with her other issues.

I had an email typed and she got sick and I had to put it in my drafts. Other things going on I will share with you eventually. Amazing how you pick up on things even in my absence. Thank you so much. I have worried every minute today. She seemed to like the warm paper towel I used on her face a few minutes ago. She is sleeping now.

Sorry to hear that she is not feeling well. It's hard to see our pets sick.

@CarolDM That is very true, they can't really do that.

I hope that Brendel will improve. It’s so hard when our fur babies don’t feel well.

Oh no, poor Brendel. I hope she is not in any serious pain. Is this something she can eventually recover from (the bronchitis part)? It always breaks my heart when I hear an animal is suffering in any way.

@moffittjc Thanks Jeff. As long as I can assure myself she is not in pain, I will continue taking care of her.

I hope this is not related to the bronchitis, but that is always a concern. The bronchitis is not going away unfortunately. They can only treat the symptoms. She was found on the streets as a baby and the vets have always said there is no way of knowing what she may have been exposed to. She has had bronchitis since I rescued her.

Awwww, I'm so sorry. Brendel is so beautiful. I love the name. Our babies are so precious and special; I know just how you feel.
When one of our 'children' is having an issue, I turn into a 'research-a-holic'. I'm online researching natural, herbal, holistic remedies.
In many cases, that has helped considerably.
I wish all the best for you and Brendel.

@CarolDM You're welcome. Don't worry about it at all. Sometimes I'm late in my responses as well.

@betlynfrnds I had to put it all on hold for my cat. Life takes priority.

Elderly cats can have a lot of issues. My oldest has thyroid disease, and my next oldest is diabetic. I lost one to kidney disease a few years ago, but we gave her fluids for a long time, and she did pretty well with it. Sad when your cats aren't doing well. I hope yours gets better.

The absolute hardest part about owning and loving a pet is that they just don't live long enough. 14 years is a long time in dog or cat life, I know. But they leave such a large empty space when they go...I hope you can enjoy a bit more quality time with her. I'm so sorry, Carol. Big, big hug.
