Most people have one. Mine isn't much of a story, but I know my mother wanted to name me Susan Helene, and my dad didn't like it. I am not sure who suggested my name Karen Elaine, but that was the one they decided to go with. I think I am glad, because even though I probably would have been Susan which is OK, you always get suzie, sue etc, and I don't like Sue. Sis and bro in law were stuck between Andrew and Kenneth for their second son.. I guess I was the tie breaker when I said i liked Andrew better. My son's name Robert, was the only one ex and I agreed on. He has always been Robbie at least to me, but he prefers most to call him Robert.

My parents used to be in charge of the bus route at their church after they got married. Two little girls, not related, were named Mindy and Amber. My parents thought they were so cute that they named us after them. They thought about naming me Beth, but I like Amber better anyway.
I think you have a beautiful name.

Thank you, and I really like the name Amber as well. It is pretty and just a touch uncommon.

I have four names and the last 2 were family jokes at a family party. They are both my mother´s name (which happened to be my grandma´s name too) and someone saying that if I had my mom´s name I should also have my dad´s. I answer to my second name that was the one my parents liked.

Name as a joke, that's a new one...lol. Although, some people do give their kids jokey first names I guess. or say their last name is Cane, they give their child the name Candy for instance.

My Dad wanted me named Julia Anne, and since he wouldn't agree to the name that she choose, they gave me her mother's middle name. Not really much of a story, but that is why I go by Julie or Julia and not by Laurie, which was the name that my mother choose.

So, you answer to both Julie and Julia? That's interesting. I always liked the name Laurie Anne.

@Juliaacv As long as it is not hidden from you.... Friend has two middle names, but he hasn't used the last middle name for years...I think not since he was in college.

@snowy22315 Yes, I answer to both.
But never with the name Anne as part of it, I use that as my middle name, except for my passport and government documents my third name is hidden.

I have a cousin who's daughter is Aleska which is not a common name, but sounds alot like the much more common Alexa. I am certain that girl is called Alexa every day. She also uses Lexie for a nickname, so people just assume her name is Alexa I am sure.

@snowy22315 Uncommon names often irritate people but I am not unhappy about my name.

My mom saw an actress on screen named Heather Angel. Would not use the Angel part for fear I would "act like the devil". My middle name is Minuette, which is a changed spelling for the flower Mignonette, I am told. Dad said he picket it.

I never heard of the name Minutte, or the flower for that matter. Unfortunately, there was a murder victim on TV who's name was Rehteah which is Heather spelled backwards. Neither here nor there, but just thought I would mention it. Interesting variation on a name.

On the first day of school I heard of so many names that I got home and told my father that my name should be changed. Then he told me that I was named after his mother. I accepted it

My Mom said she and my Dad had a hard time thinking of the right name. Finally, she decided on Anne Marie because the Queen of Greece was named that at the time. My Dad is Greek. That's why she started thinking about it and liking the name.

I have no idea how my parents came up with my name. My legal first name is pretty traditional but there is no obvious reason for it like a family connection or whatever. Then half of the family called me one version of it while the other used a different diminuitive--like being named Jennifer but being called Jenny and Jen. Apparently I was a baby that didn't respond to any name because people kept calling me different things. So my mother said "just call her (my middle name)! You can't mess that up!" So that's always been what has been my name. The only people who call me by my actual legal name are strangers and telemarketers.

My mother doesn't go by her legal first name either. She does get mail addressed to her with it though.
