We continue our look at 40-year-old songs today, and this 1983 hit goes out to our favorite Chic from NJ, who’s probably doing just what this song says in the title!! Twisting By the Pool - Dire Straits Although this song goes back to 1983, its roots are about 25 years older. This is a brilliant homage to 50s rock and roll. I say “brilliant” because it sounds fresh while still having the 50s vibe to it. The neo-rockabilly era started just after this song hit (with the Stray Cats and the like), but that was more “forget-trying-to-sound-modern” music. This isn’t. While not a “singles” hit (it did do well on the album tracks chart, however), this is one of my favorite Dire Straits songs.
