My photographic journey through the Financial District of San Francisco. Part 1.

I got up at 5:45 AM this morning and went to San Francisco to be in a Focus Group. They let some of us out early, as they had overbooked, so I was a "free man in San Francisco" with a camera (actually, a cell phone that takes decent pictures).
I decided to do a "study" of the integration of old and new architecture in "The City," specifically the Financial District. I got there by BART, our rapid transit system, and did not suffer any ill effects. I could spend as much time there as I wanted.
Many of us "old-timers" think that the newer buildings in San Francisco are too aggressive in their design, and don't do enough to honor San Francisco's "old city" roots. The skyline sure has changed. But time marches on, and we have to accept that.
I'll start with this photo. It shows a towering skyscraper in the distance that looks like it might belong in Dubai. Or maybe not. In the foreground is a bank, and another skyscraper that looks to me a bit like the old World Trade Center in New York.
Between them is an old-school San Francisco building, one that make me think of my childhood days visiting San Francisco to dine with my parents at a fancy restaurant (we lived in Berkeley until I was eight).
What do you see in the photograph? Is it a pretty skyline from close up to you? It was a beautiful day, perfect for taking photographs in downtown San Francisco.

I recall reading an Encyclopaedia when I was in my Teens.
It had a picture of late 1970s or early 80 Mumbai (Then Bombay). It showed a few high rise buildings and some big slums at just a little distance.
For me, that contrast and a certain heartlessness showcases many of our Metropolis.
Some do have something in their culture that comforts many.
Yet for many, it is a big big struggle and often vety little joy.

Well captured.
No surprises for me.
A busy, thankless city with big concrete and glass structures.
Dreams, stories, triumphs, sorrows, failure all in one.
A few success stories.
Many failed dreams but the city moves on.
People may come and go.
Dreams may rise or fall.
People live and die.
Yet the mighty, thankless and stone hearted Concrete and Glass urban jungles live on..
Live on....

Well, you took a nice shot but as for SF, way too much concrete and stone. Trees?

I think that’s a good portrait of San Francisco: a mish-mash of various styles. I’m just starting here, so I want to see what else you found on your trip to SF.

I guess to me the buildings look somewhat packed in. It's nice you had such a beautiful 'free' day there.
