Most of our cuisine will have onions and there lies the problem I do not get into the kitchen much but when I do I hate this chore of dealing with onions.
Tears run down my eyes when I cut onions. And then comes the peeling issue These days the skin of the onion is too thin which makes it difficult to handle it and then there are skins that are half thin and half good enough to be retained. I have no patience to retain that which can be used and the entire skin gets into the garbage bin.
If only there was a better way to peel onions - life in the kitchen would have been a great experience Wish there were recipes that have no onions [em]rolleyes

Have you tried wearing goggles when you deal with onions? It sounds ridiculous, but a lot of people have your same problem, and goggles have worked on them.
Also, if you put your onions in the freezer long enough you can peel the onion without crying. The exact amount of time though is hit or miss.
And finally, and this works the best to me, put a piece of bread in between your front teeth, your lips slightly open. The chemicals from the onion will be absorbed in the bread before they reach your eyes.
Some of these work differently depending on how correctly you follow the instructions. Getting the onion cold enough for instance, might be trial and error.

@allknowing You can't see out of goggles? You know, maybe I never used traditional goggles. Because regular ones would surely get foggy.

I possibly cannot keep a bunch of onions in the deep freeze but will have to plan how many to keep and all this needs calculation - first plan on what to cook, how many onions will be needed and the planning has to be atleast six hours or so before the onions are ready - sorry not my cup of tea (lol)
Bread may not be there - not my cup of tea either (lol)
Goggles? I must see what I am cutting - there again an emphatic now (lol)
I read somewhere running water from a tap helps. I must try that - perhaps the easiest.

@AmbiePam They do get foggy. I switch the light in the kitchen when I am there as the kitchen is a place that is not as bright as any of the other areas of our house.

Onions don't make me cry when I cut them up. That's why Pretty always wants me to cut up the veggies for her when she cooks.

I feel lucky when the onions do not make me cry. I struggle also with the peeling time

We do not get dried onions. Are they chopped? What about where salads need fresh onions?

Onion's are so good, I cry when I cut them as well and there is many recipes that take onion's, plus you can always get already cut onions from the store.

We cut them in different ways, - rings, lengthwise and chopped fine, chunks, sadly

One should remember to do it as planning a meal involves so many steps and planning it two hours in advance may not be quite easy

@allknowing I keep a few onions all the time in the refrigerator, so I do not forget. Anyway I plan my meals early in the morning and I check that everything I need to use is ready.
