My photographic journey through the Financial District of San Francisco. Part 4.

Living in the United States, I sometimes miss the older sculptures I see in European cities. This sculpture, on a benign corner in San Francisco, struck my fancy. But I have no idea when it was done, when it was placed there, nor what it represents. I circumnavigated its base, and found no plaque or inscription.

I'm guessing it represents mother and child ..... that's all I could come up with.

Is it Mary and Jesus? Is it Pauline and Max? Is it Wilma and Pebbles? I have no clue.

Isn't it Madonna and Child? Not sure though, or like you said, Mary and Jesus.

I just can't tell. The child looks uncomfortable to me.

@TheHorse But maybe the child is just "looking toward the heavens."

Oh !! That's no good! Such a great and worthy work and no plaque!! Well, it's an irony that whereas the lesser mortals are resplendent with fame and money, this world hardly recognizes genius like you, me, Vanny abd DE ! Or wait, perhaps you are very famous!!

@averygirl72 I don't know. Maybe it's Mary and Jesus. Jesus could be looking toward the heavens.

A woman stealing someone's baby? No, can't represent that. It was probably made before everything went to pot. But seriously, it is beautiful. Thank you for sharing it.

I would think religious first; then my mind went to the refugees caused by the 1906 earthquake.

Ah, good one. I thought of the 1989 quake, but then thought "the statue is too old for that." Is it "worm hole" time? I'll handle it.

That is an amazing sculpture. They should have put up a plaque about the sculpture,

It's a shame there is no information about it at the site. I'm sure you're not the only one that would be curious.
