What do you think about euthanasia?

I know euthanasia is not approved in other countries but if it were legal in your country would you go for it?
If I grow to be so old that I could no longer wipe my butt, then I would prefer euthanasia. I want to die with "dignity" and not burden my family with taking care of the bedridden me.
This would also end my pain and suffering if I do so.
What about you? What do you think of euthanasia?

@Jenaisle Only the person who desire to have euthanasia can take the decision. This to avoid that "greedy relatives" decide to kill you to get your money. You can sign at any time, so that the instruction are registered with our National Healthcare Institute and all hospitals are informed. I am 72, I could have a stroke tomorrow morning, I do not want to be 2 months attached to a machine as my mother was, let me go.

@Jenaisle I cannot imagine the horrors of old age. It is scaring me, but I do hope I can regain good health for now.

There should be a will to opt for euthanasia should the situation demand it but without it there could be relatives who would do that in their own itnterest.

This is one of those gray areas there is no right or wrong answer to the question its a double edge sword sort of speak. When you think about someone you love you don't want them to suffer and be in pain but could you take their life whether, they want you to or not? If your choice, it for yourself how will it leave those around you feeling?

@Jenaisle Bedridden or not we are all going to die at some time. But like I said it's a no-win for anyone. Someone is going to hurt and felt betrayed.

To be honest, I am not totally sure how I feel about it all. However, I can understand why people would want that under certain circumstances. We have all known someone who has reached the point that they have absolutely NO quality of life. They are out of their heads, or in such terrific pain that even strong medications don't work, can't eat of sleep or even think anymore...you know, none of us want that for ourselves or for anyone else, either. It's not only a very hard way to die, it's hard to watch.
I would think the hardest thing about this decision is if you decided to do this but wanted to wait until you had reached a certain point, and had to trust that decision to someone else as to decide when it would happen. No one really knows how people's minds work in those situations, the responsibility of it all could be overwhelming, I would think.

@MarieCoyle Yes, even divorce has not been approved here, so more so with euthanasia.

There are people who marry and never should have, abuse occurs, things happen. Sometime marriages do not work and it is better for people to be apart. Divorce isn't always terrible, sometimes, it saves lives. But I do know how being Catholic works, I was born Catholic and had 2 priests in my family as well as several nuns.

I would think anyone who is truly considering this option, and that lives in a place that it is allowed, has had to put a lot of thought into it before making a decision. And yes, you are right, more than likely never approved in a country that is mostly Catholic, for sure.

I am all for it, sounds so scary and sure it is but the suffering. Hell no. Do the right thing. Put people to rest so they can see better days in the next life.

It is against religion but yes it would be preferable to being bed ridden and children having to cope.

@Jenaisle thanks Jenaisle I dont approve because in India Article 21 of the Constitution gives right to life. Any process by which life is extended. No process by which life is ended early is not justified

You know, I'm not against that. Especially when there is no hope of recovery with a fatal illness. It would be considered the merciful thing to do. Hospice is a form of this, letting someone die with dignity and peace.

It’s legal in Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, and a few other countries I can’t remember, as well as several states in America, which includes: Oregon, California, Vermont, Washington, a couple more, plus Washington D.C.. I read a story about two “older”, but not elderly, sisters who went to Switzerland for vacation. What they didn’t tell their family was that they went there to die. They had a lot of health problems, and decided that is how they wanted to go. It wasn’t until the family took out a missing persons report that they found out the truth.
My dad always said his biggest fear was needing someone to wipe his own rear someday. I don’t know if I could ever go through with something like euthanasia, but I’m certainly not going to judge any person who does.

i wish it was legal in my country. If it was legal, I prefer euthanasia, I often think I want to die by euthanasia. it looks like euthanasia doesn't feel painful, although I don't know for sure

I feel the same way. I'd rather not be a burden to anyone. It's best for my loved ones to move on and wipe away their tears sooner instead of spending their precious time and hard-earned money to keep me alive when they could focus on their lives together with their new family.
