A Bear Was On My Street!!!!!

George Bernard Vieto always gives us a really good animal rescue story. Now I've got a bear rescue story to tell!! And I'm not making this up!! A bear was on the loose right where I live!! Right up the street!! Here in Washington, DC!! He went to some back yards and decided on a tree to climb!! He tried to come down but the sirens scared him and he climbed back up and watched the crowd. Many were in shock to see the bear in the city. Soon the bear got tired of that tree and climbed down not scared of the sirens or people. He walked up the street and people were screaming, there's a bear out here!!!! The bear found another tree in another back yard. Eventually the animal rescue unit shot him with a tranquilizer that knocked him out. They released him into a large wooded area in Maryland. This was the event of the year!! We see lots of deer, but a bear. Not too often. I'm now kind of paranoid walking home. I keep looking around carefully to see if anything's out there. Or if I should play Goldie locks if a bear somehow enters our house. I just had to share this one with you George!! That's a picture of the real bear in the picture!!!

The bear looks awfully adorable, and very bemused. He’s like, why are you afraid of me? I can understand why though, it would create a lot of buzz around the city.

He was a cute bear. And enjoyed watching the spectators. He was trying to find a comfortable spot to sit in.

@db20747 I like bears and also wolves. We invaded their space and now we blame them.

He was a cute bear. And he was not dangerous. Just trying to find a good tree.

The Bear must have wanderer too far out of its habitat. Or may be its habitat had been encroached upon a bit too much? I think the Bear must have been in a terrible state of mind.

Yes, they're cutting too many trees to build around here. Pretty soon they'll be making their home right in people's backyards and we can bring them honey to eat.

Wow, how did he even get there . . . I mean, there are no bears (no deer either) in our area - I would be completely shocked too. Hope the bear is ok in Maryland!

@db20747 I guess technically we have made homes in their backyards . I think they go into people territory because we've taken so much of theirs.

Good question. Hope he finds his way home. Pretty soon they will make people's backyards their home.

He was an adorable bear and enjoyed watching the people. Couldn't find anything good to eat. Glad he's back out in the wilderness at home.

I can imagine how scary it can . It's enjoyable watching them on television not just bumping into one without our knowledge. Glad it was rescued finally.

OMG, in DC? That's surprising. I would be too scared too to walk thinking a bear might be just around the corner. I presume they are released back into the wild? Wouldn't it be better to house them in one place?

Yes, he was released into the woods in Maryland. Don't think they would keep them in any place but somewhere like zoo.

I can't even imagine if a bear was in our neighborhood. I'm glad he was OK, and was moved to a better area.

Seems many are seeing bears these days. They are all over Gatlinburg of course but none here so far.

@db20747 There have been a few in the area saying they spotted one or two here and there. So you are right.
