Ooh so frustrated and mad

Not only frustrated, but feeling defeated. I stayed in bed until six. I looked out my front window when I got up. Something, or someone, has messed with my plants. I have what was called a corn pot. It is yellow enamelware and holds a lot. I put my rosemary in it. Eventually I will put it in the ground when I decide where, but at this time I had it in this pot. The pot was turned on its side and all the dirt was dug out of it. Rosemary, with the rootball intact laying on the ground. It was not my cats. The pot was upright when the came in last night. I also doubt it was a human. Could be a dog, but why? I do not think the average cat could have turned it over. So that leaves deer, raccoons, skunks, armadillos, or possums. Again, I am not certain why they would. They do not eat the rosemary. Skunk, armadillo or possum might have heard some kind of insect crawling in the soil. Who knows. So the pot is back upright, soil replaced and the rosemary is watered in. How are you this morning?

I'm here and needing to stay awake for a while today. We have some errands to run around 9 am... I'm glad you got everything back into the pot and hope nothing bothers it again. Good luck

As I looked, it is all the new containers I planted. It is the soil. I bought a new kind of container soil and I think it smells good to something. Bob says likely raccoons. I have heard they are bad here this year.

@marlina Thanks... One is enjoyable but the other isn't. *shrug* It still had to be done, though.

As I look, it is all my new containers. Two days ago it was the lantana, now it is everything else.

@GardenGerty I don’t know what you even do. Set up a big, fake animal to scare creatures away?

If it happened here, I'd suspect squirrels trying to plant peanuts. They dug up all my muscarii last week but didn't eat any of the bulbs.

I have squirrels, but they stay mostly in back. It is more damage than I thought, sage, rosemary and tomatoes all dug up. It may be the new potting mix I tried smells good to something.

Bob thinks it is raccoons. It turns out there were four containers attacked last night.

I'm sorry this happened to you. I think it's best installing a fence or barrier for your greens, also using natural or chemical repellents may help get unwanted rodents or bugs from feasting your plants, installing motion-activated lights or sprinklers also choosing plant locations carefully, and monitoring plants closely. While it may take trial and error to find the most effective solution, implementing these measures can help protect plants from future disturbances. Hope you resolved the issue soon. Have a great day!

I am going to do some research. They have hit five pots this week. All of them have a new brand of commercial soil. I may mix some kind of repellent in the dirt as I repot them all.

My bet is some animal is responsible for turning over your pot. Hope it doesn't happen again.

That would be annoying. I wonder what it was? And if you'll ever find out.

I'm sorry your plants were disturbed. I hope whatever it is will leave them alone from now on. I am OK this morning. A little groggy. I fell asleep for a couple of hours this morning; and I feel that I could use more sleep. Have a good day.

I had the problem with raccoons digging stuff up all the time when I lived in the country. I went to the local farm store and bought a repellent called Bonide. LIttle bitty pellets and they hate it, so they leave the plants alone. Another think I used was cinnamon and red pepper flakes--I went to the dollar store and bought several bottles of each, and it even stopped the deer from eating my garden. I love wildlife, but the deer had plenty of food without munching on my vegetables!
