Do you also get stressed out when someone’s visiting (or staying) at your house?

Story time! It’s so unlike of my bff to go silent on me for a week. But today, she sent me a pm and I finally understood why I didn’t hear from her for like forever. She had houseguests in the form of her husband’s second cousin and his family of four. They had to attend the wake/ funeral of their grandfather so they came all the way from up north. And stayed in my bff’s house for seven days. Which, if you know how awkward my best friend is towards people, is like a hell of week for her. But she was on her best behavior- she swore to me. However the guests could have done better. The cousin was a slob. The wife was lazy. Their kids were spoiled rotten. Plus my best friend’s fluffy bath towels she bought last Christmas were missing. As hospitable as she is, she let them use her towels and now they were missing. Gah! When was the last time you had house guests? Photo reminded me of the missing fluffy towels.

The last time we had house guests was the Thanksgiving before Covid started. We invited several friends who didn't have family close enough for them to go visit so they came and stayed several days with us. I'm glad we didn't have any problems like your friend did. I think I'd be calling others in the family and warn them about the second cousin and his family.

Aww that’s so kind of you to do. I can imagine how sad it was for those who lost their family members and celebrated alone. I would do so in our group gc

@sol_cee I started inviting friends to come celebrate holidays at my house when Pretty was so far away in college. There was no way I could drive the 19 hours to get her and then take her back to school during the holidays so friends filled the void for me.

Seven days? That’s too long to impose on people, even family. I don’t get tense when my sister’s family comes to stay, but if it was a cousin or second cousin, I would. I would also tell them they would have to find other accommodations. With behavior like that, I would not make my family put up with that crap. Your poor friend!

@sol_cee It is common here too, don't get me wrong. But I just don't have family that acted the way your friend had to put up with (that I know of anyway). Although, it isn't common to stay seven whole days, I should add that. Generally, no one stays more than four. I just can't believe people would be so rude to her.

Honto ni ? If I had guests like that, they would never be invited to stay again! And to steal towels . . . that is just seriously rude and warui.

That is very, very rude to take the bath-towels. I would make sure I never had to host them again. What awful people.

My daughter comes, and sometimes my grand kids once or twice a year. No one steals my towels. Yes, I stress if it is anyone but them.

Never. We don't really entertain. But, having house guests disrupts your routine and dynamistic, so that's why it's so stressful on people.
