Chalk pieces - can they be recycled?

We have a green board at work with chalk pieces that we sometimes use for teaching or presentations. This may sound old school, but it is interesting. We also have a whiteboard, projector, etc as tools. One of the things we end up every month is small, colorful chalk pieces that are too small to use. They make a colorful mix, but are too small to use - they end up getting dumped. Is there any way to recycle, repurpose or reuse them?

You crush the remaining chalk into powder, mix with water, and give it to children as a sort of sidewalk paint. How much water is according to how thick you want the “paint”. You can also make those pieces of chalk into little chalk balls, and use them again on a chalkboard. Just use a search engine, and they’ll give you the relatively easy details.

I see Amber has some good suggestions. I hate wasting anything but sometimes there doesn't seem to be a use for scraps.
