Making ice cream in a manually operated ice cream pail is no doubt hard work but the results are great. I had a get together at my place a few years ago of my office colleagues It was a sleep over. We all joined and cooked on that day and each of us had a responsibility - someone did the soup, someone the chicken, salad was given to another one and so on. I was a get together to remember The making of the ice cream was also allotted to someone who did a good job but we all rallied round as it was the most difficult task of all. The ice cream turn out great. And a memory created. Do you make your own ice cream? Image credit:

I can imagine how hard that would be since I know it needs to be constantly stirred around until it becomes frozen.

@allknowing I am just curious how long did it take to be frozen?

@rsa101 I do not remember - may be 3 hours as we had to have our lunch and so assume it was ready within that time.

I don’t make ice cream but we used to. Nothing can compare to good home made ice cream.

I remember as a kid, our church had ice cream socials every Sunday night after church. An older gentleman would bring his ice cream "maker" like the one in your picture to serve everyone homemade ice cream. And ice cream made like that is the best kind I have ever tasted.

We've made it when I was a child but we didn't have an ice-cream maker. I remember there was a lot of beating involved.

Nowadays I make it in the fridge. You have to thaw it out atleast thrice and put it back in the fridge. That must have been tough as the ice cream pail has salt and ice to help it harden.
