Kitty brought me dinner last night!

I had my front door open yesterday evening, letting the cool air in. I heard Kitty meowing and meowing outside. She knows she's welcome inside any time, and I wondered what the fuss was about.
When I went out to investigate, I saw that she had brought home some dinner to share with me. It was a bit large to be a mouse, but it had the longish skinny tail of a mouse. I'm actually still not sure what it was.
I picked up her offering by the tail. It was very dead but not stiff. I raised it up, and went "num num num." Then I placed it back in front of her and went inside.
Before I went to bed, I saw half-a-rodent outside my door. If it's still there this morning, I will "do the dishes" by placing the leftovers in the dumpster.
I am not a cat person, so I have a question: My friends John and Penny recently gave me 20 cans of wet cat food. I have been spoiling Kitty a bit with extra large portions of her afternoon wet food. Could she be thanking me for indulging her a bit? Or could she feel pressure to do more of the hunting in this household?
I am open to learning.

You might enjoy the book Tribe of Tiger, as it would help you with the psychology of cats. Kitty was "taking care of you" by bringing you food.

She brought you a present. My little Inga brought me a chipmunk one time. I was devastated. Now that all the dogs are gone, the chipmunk population has rebounded. Have a good rest of your day.

@TheHorse Yes, our dogs were hunters. They don't know any better.

Oh, how adorable and thoughtful of Kitty! Cats often show their affection in unique ways. It's like her way of saying, Thank you for spoiling me with those extra yummy meals, She might also feel a bit like a provider in the household, as hunting is instinctual for cats. But don't worry, it's just her way of showing love and appreciation. Embrace the gesture and continue to enjoy your special bond with Kitty!

It could be either or both scenarios. Or she could be letting you know that there are rats in the area.

Bad news for you, Pony: whether your realize it or not, you ARE a cat person now. You don’t pick them, they pick their slaves…and you’ve been selected.

She loves you very much and is grateful for you providing for her, She wants to share what is considered delicious for her with you. Unfortunately, not everything that cats like we like. It is the thought that counts,
