Umbrella or raincoat

Hello
This just came up as I was seeing people rushing to take shelter when it started raining, well most of the times.
In our area raincoats are not so very common to most people, so many have umbrella well except for a few like farmers who want to work when it is raining.
sometimes I feel that umbrella are not much efficient because, usually when it rains, there is also wind, if not careful you might start flying without wings. But luckily last week I bought a raincoat but I have not used it, hopefully ill start using it.
My friends, what do you prefer to use when it is raining?

I usually don't bother using either one. I'm only outside from the house into my car and then from my car into a store so I just duck my head and run.

@thebos I still only go from my house to my car and then from the car to where ever... If my car breaks down, I call AAA and let the tow truck driver deal with it.

I have a raincoat. If it's warm, I just run out to the car.

If possible, I want them both to be sure. We cannot expect how hard the rain would be.

I suppose raincoats are more effective at protecting us against heavy rainfall, but I prefer an umbrella because I am used to it.

@thebos Yes. that might be a solid reason why they prefer umbrellas.

Many many years ago when I was still living in NYC where I was born and raised it seemed crazy that people on such crowded streets as there are carried umbrellas. You could get your eyes poked out but then when it rained people on the sidewalks would be selling umbrellas for a dollar each so if your umbrella broke or the wind turned it inside out you could quickly buy another. At one time I had a collection of umbrellas because I was always losing mine or forgetting them in the subways. Now when the rain pours in Florida with the wind it is impossible to walk with an umbrella so I use a rain poncho over my clothes,

@thebos a rain poncho is like a large tent you put over yourself that covers you up and is waterproof,
