Anyone hear about the C.E.R.N. research on black holes?

There's been a lot of talk lately about these artificial black holes destroying the world! OMG! lol... for those of you who haven't heard of CERN, here is a link: http://public.web.cern.ch/Public/Welcome.html Really interesting stuff. Just so you know, the black hole that they are creating is only going to last a fraction of a second and won't posess the time needed to destroy the world, or even the lab that it's being created in. Check it out though. Do some Googling if you're a physics nerd or just like some interesting technological reading.

What's their purpose for creating these artificial black holes? Are they meant to destroy or prove a theory? It's very interesting to think that creating one but will it do good to us or not.

Here are some links on the black hole. That sight was on CERN itself, the partical accelerator lab that they are doing this with.

I can't find much more than that right now, but if I find some more I'll post them up here.

You are so great for leaving Cerns Link. And, for those of you that are afraid of black holes eating you in the middle of the night. Please keep in mind the "hawkings theory of radioactive decay". These studies could potentially lead the entire human race to a new era of technological advancement. The LHC is not just an attempt at making microscopic clusters of tiny black holes either. One of the key experiments that is to take place over the next few years is an intense search for the Higg's Boson particle which could give us a whole new understanding of physics through a complete picture of the essence of gravity.
We are talking vast interstellar travel, endless free energy, the manipulation of gravity, or even manipulation of physical space itself. No more worries about trash, electricity, pollution, gas, or anything. Try to think of it as the next step to Star Trek. I for one feel that it is worth the risk. Besides, the scientists working out there at CERN really know what they are getting themselves into and they ave undergone years of research just into the safety element of these experiments. I am for one excited about the power increases over the next few years. I can 't wait to see the LHC hit 12 Tev..... Jeah!
