Do you believe that sending in your life savings to a televangelist preacher will buy you a place in heaven?
Does a TV preacher with several multimillion-dollar homes, dozen of luxury cars, and a private jet desperately need the last few pennies you have in your bank account in order to save your soul?
Will sending in your child's college fund to a megachurch leader result in you becoming rich as a result?
I hope none of you answered yes to any of these questions.
Preachers who live like kings, queens, or emperors off the money donated by their congregations have no more Christian intent than the Rolls Royce they get driven around in. They don't worship God. They worship money.
How do you feel about megarich megachurch pastors living lives of extreme luxury off of the money congregants have donated when many of those congregants can barely pay the rent and buy groceries?

This subject just makes me so mad. Those mega-preachers prey on vulnerable people, the elderly, the needy. They live in mansions and have a high life. And people actually send them money. They even send money that they need to pay their everyday bills, because they completely believe that if they do, some magic will befall them and they will be ''blessed'' with all their bills paid.
Life doesn't work that way. I know there are a lot of desperate people out there, and these so-called ministers are masters at talking the talk and getting money out of people. It's very sad.

Remember this? I have to wonder how many walls he has cash stashed in!

@MarieCoyle I had not seen that story. What in the world was somebody thinking?

There was a documentary about one of them that won an Oscar in 1973. It’s called Marjoe, about Marjoe Gortner. It’s sad, eye-opening, and scary. (It’s on Tubi for free if you want to watch it.)
As a believer, it scares me when the “person” becomes the focal point. That’s how Jim Jones worked.

What worries me more is that in this political climate, with most of them being conservatives and many of them supporting Trump, they might use their influence over their weak-minded followers to call them to battle on Trump's behalf, declaring it to be a holy war.

@FourWalls I never thought of that but you're right this leads to cults and other terrible occurances.

I would never send any money to any megachurch pastor and agree with you that they worship money and not God. I feel bad for those poor people who buy into this and give away their money with the hopes of salvation.

I agree with you to an extent.
No, donating to those mega-churches won't save your soul. However, those mega-churches also have bills to pay, along with salaries for their many employees. It's no different from public television stations or Christian radio stations which are listener funded when they have their drives a couple of times a year to meet their budgets. It's also no different from working for a large corporation whose owners also get shuffled around in luxury cars and jets. Everyone needs to eat and pay their bills. It's only the church that comes under fire because they need your tithes and offerings to pay the bills. They aren't government funded. They depend on tithes and offerings or close their doors.
How those mega-churches go on their crusades to prey on the sympathies of their listeners is what irritates me. No, I don't give to mega-churches. But I do pay my tithe to my local church.

These preachers are false prophets who Jesus and many in the Bible and many pastors warn us about today. It hurts my heart to think about them taking money from the sick and hurting.

The elderly, who cannot afford to send in money, are unfortunately the target of a lot of these churches. It's so sad and maddening. Enjoy your day.
