Auto-Rickshaws

Rickshaws and taxis are the best mode of transport rather than owning a vehicle We have an arrangement with the owners of both the rickshaw and taxi. We call them up whenever we require them Rickshaws ply within city limits while taxis go beyond We feel having one less vehicle on the road reduces traffic congestion and pollution. Then there is the hassle of getting it in and out where we need to open the gate and get it closed, maintenance, repairs, driving tension on busy roads having to face rash drivers.......the list is endless. And last but not the least we hardly socialise and thee guys get an opportunity to earn through us What is your take on this? I totally agree there. After Covid I am not driving much, my work place is at walking distance now and I don't need to drop my younger daughter anymore as she has a bus service. My husband uses the office transport or carpools. We have two cars and they are not much used. Yesterday I got the message about the due car service of my car and we had a similar discussion. I have not taken out my car much since the last service. It's stressful to drive on Bangalore road and traffic.

Here where I live every one owes cars - one just bought a BMW - only those in business use them and for others it is a prestige issue

@allknowing Hmm... I can understand. My husband's sister and her husband hardly need a car. They have four and two years back they bought Mercedes. I don't see a point other than a prestige and status symbol.

That’s wonderful if you don’t need a car. It saves a lot of expenses. What is the picture, rickshaw or taxi?

It's a common mode of transport here too and especially at the Kenya coast they are called tuktuk I agree with your point it saves energy, fuel, pollution and helps others earn.

I too don't own a car and use a auto rickshaw who we trust and call whenever there's a need.

@allknowing Where it's necessary to have a car with people at home to drive and manage they won't pay for a auto rickshaw or a taxi.
