Have you ever been sued?

Believe it or not, and some of you may say you totally believe it (), I was sued when I was around 23 years old. I was not the person the guy wanted to hurt with the lawsuit (my dad was), but I was the one he could legally target. As we suspected, the man who sued me was laughed out of court by the judge, but I think it was a lesson for my dad. I hadn’t had a good feeling about that guy, but with his big heart, my dad tried to help someone whom he thought was trying to turn his life around. About a year later, that same guy had the audacity to show up at my parent’s house, wanting help again. I remember I didn’t see who was at the door, but suddenly my mom stepped outside, and closed the front door behind her. I don’t know what she said to him, but she came back inside, her eyes blazing. She too hadn’t liked that guy, but she chastised herself for judging. However, I think we all have to lean towards using our instincts, which I absolutely did from then on. My dad felt bad about it all for a long time. I was in the midst of a health battle, and he had accidentally added to the stress. So, have you ever been sued? Or, did you sue someone? The story on why he sued is long, so I’ll just skip it.

I'm so sorry that happened to your family. I briefly considered a lawsuit against the hospital ER for almost letting me die. I waited 7 hours to be seen with those kidney stones infection and went into sepsis. My doctor said I had about two hours left to live when he operated on me. Then a week in the hospital on high powered antibiotics fighting the sepsis. But we decided against any lawsuit.

That was so infuriating, I kind of wish you had sued to, but that probably would stress you out even more.

Thankfully I've never been sued and hope to not get into that situation. Ugh - sorry you and your family had to go through that. Even if it all favors you, the whole process is still a pain in the butt.

Yes, and I didn’t know at first. I got the surprise of my life when PrePaid legal called, and updated me on the case. My health was so bad, my parents tried to keep it from me. When they got home that day, I said, “So, I hear I’m being sued?”

I have not sued anyone, nor been sued. One of my aunts (that married into our family) had a twin brother. When the last of their parents passed, he sued her and she sued him. Both are gone now, and I never knew if they settled or not, but I do not believe that they were on speaking terms even decades later in their final years of their lives. Very sad.

Yes, I've been sued and sued someone. I was sued by Verizon because I wouldn't pay a fraudulent bill they insisted I owed. I got cellphones for Pretty and I from a local phone company that signed an agreement for $30 a month for unlimited talk and text when Pretty was in college. Verizon bought them out and then tried to charge me $60 a month for the same services. When I refused to pay, they sued me. The judge ruled in my favor and I haven't been considered a good customer by Verizon since then. (They do have the best services in my area so they are who I use.) I sued my best friend at the time. He asked me for help rebuilding his credit after having problems in California. He moved back to Missouri and I co-signed for a credit card for him. He refused to pay the bills so I sued him over it. Of course, I won but lost a friend I would have preferred to keep if he had just paid what he owed.

I'm sorry you lost a friend. But man, they did not deserve you. I can't imagine leaving a friend to pay the bill for my own charges.

Oh yes. A few years back. We had this business partner, a member of the board in our company that violated the code and we kicked out. We did it legally. But to get back to us, she sued us, not the corporation, but us (individually) for estate. Of course, I knew for a fact that the case won't prosper. I got my subpoena to a newer before the prosecutor's office my response to her claims. I did. We all did, individually. After my lawyer responded to her claims, the prosecutor denied her case for estate.

@AmbiePam She tried for a year to sue us nut no lawyer accepted her. But that particular year, she succeeded to find one and for sure it was an unexperienced lawyer who was not brilliant enough.

I have been sued recently by the telephone department for not paying the dues. I stopped paying as they were not giving the services properly. My landline stopped working long ago and the broadband was giving regular trouble. I have decided to go back and attend the court at home and ask them to take away their equipments and give back my security deposit.

I've been sued by my mother a couple of years ago. She accused me of owing her Rs 300,000 ($6625). Actually, the house was owned by both My father and mother. When I turned 23, they both decided to transfer the ownership to me. But after my mom and I got into a fight she lied that I bought the house from her and haven't paid her. She requested the judge to either make me pay her or return the ownership to her. Luckily my father bore witness that my mother is lying and I do not owe her anything. So I won the case. It was one of the hardest times I had in my life. I could not believe that she sued me. I have always stood by her side in good and bad times but I get she has forgotten everything.

That should be taken as a bad dream and forgotten forever but not easy. I was when I was in business designing landscaped gardens The ownership had changed and this new guy started building a shed right in the middle of the spot the old owner had wanted the garden designed. I had already started on the job and when I saw it I just stopped going there and that is when I was summoned. But hearing both sides the new owner had to apologise and I was supposed to continue but since he did not apologise I did not continue.
