When writing about Gig I came to think about Judy Garland. The difference here is that poor Judy was basically carnage leftover from before child actors really had rights in place to protect them. Judy was given pep pills to keep her going and sleeping pills to make her sleep at the end of the night by the same people who would later label her as hard to deal with and dispose of her when she was no longer able to stay lucid because of the things they did to her. It was the studio that got her addicted to pills and eventually ruined her life but instead of taking any sort of responsibility for it they basically just made it like it was all her doing.
Judy Garland had so much talent and had this amazing singing voice but it was ruined due to addiction that the studio got her hooked on. She should have been protected as a child but she wasn't. She could have been so much more but thanks to everything the studio took from her she died far younger than she should have.
Growing up one of my favorite childhood movies after "Peter Pan" with Mary Martin was "The Wizard of Oz" and I think about how that movie should have been a happier time for her than it really was. Judy Garland had all of this talent but thanks to her inability to stay sober and lucid she was difficult to work with. Gene Kelly said he owed her a lot for being so helpful when he did his first film with her which is why he helped her with "Summer Stock" when no one else wanted to work with her. She had been labeled difficult to work with because of her inability to be reliable on a film. She was seldom sober and she was really difficult to work with but Gene worked with her anyway because he felt he owed her. Despite how difficult was for them that movie turned out amazing and when you hear Judy sing in it you wouldn't believe she was really as bad as it was said she was.
Judy really needed more support than she had. Child actors who don't have people protecting them often become prey and back when she was a child there weren't the rules and regulations in place to keep her from being preyed upon. I feel so bad for what was done to her. She died far too soon. She had children who loved her and needed her but they never really got the mom they needed because of her addiction.

She's always been one of my favorite actors and when you realize she was doing most of her acting while high you can only imagine how amazing she would have been sober. Unfortunately, that was the way things were back then. There were a lot of things done back then that wouldn't fly today. They made laws for child actors far stricter today to keep the things that happened to Judy from happening to other kids. It's just sad that she had to be one of the casualties of that time period. I often watch old movies and think how wonderful things seemed back then in comparison to today but she is exhibit A that things weren't always great. Every generation fought its share of battles. Judy may still be here if they would have put the laws and regulations in place back then that they have today.

@sissy15 I know, I used to wish I had been born in those “simpler” times, but they hid so much they did to children.
What is your favorite Judy Garland movie? Is it Wizard? I loved “The Pirate” with Gene Kelly, and “Meet Me in St. Louis” with Vincent Minnelli (I was sad that marriage didn’t work out).

@AmbiePam When I was a kid it was totally "Wizard of Oz" as an adult no. You are probably one of the very few people who even know "The Pirate" exists as no one else seems to know about that one when I talk about it minus one or two Gene Kelly fans I know. Ironically one of the songs they use in "The Pirate" they changed the words to for "Singin' in the Rain" when they sang "Make em' laugh". Anyway, I'm really thinking what my favorite Judy movie is. I really liked "Meet Me in St. Louis" too her rendition of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" is a classic but I am not sure that's my favorite either. I love all of the movies she did with Gene Kelly. "For me and my Gal", "Summer Stock", and "The Pirate". Ironically I often get "Meet Me in St. Louis" mixed up with "By the Light of the Silvery Moon" with Doris Day mixed up here and there due to some similar plots. I can't be sure though what my ultimate favorite Judy movie would be but I'll settle for the ones she did with Gene Kelly they weren't the world's greatest movies but I loved them just the same. I also really loved "In the Good Old Summertime". I know they aren't movies that most people would pick but for whatever reason they still remain some of my favorites. I seem to like a lot of movies critics hate lol.

She had a rather sad life. I watch a lot of TCM(vintage movies) and they have a lot of the old shows that actors did during the wars. Like a variety show.

@celticeagle I mostly use the app. I am not a fan of most war movies or westerns and I am also not a huge fan of political or historic movies but there are exceptions to all of them from time to time. My favorites are typically comedy and drama and I also really like musicals. Most people when I say I like musicals think I'm referring to modern musicals but I prefer older musicals.
