A nice mention from a former student's parent

Back in late October 2012 the Jersey Shore was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. The staff at my school immediately created a list of students who were likely impacted by the storm based on where they lived. It was only 2 months into the school year so I didn't know my students particularly well at that point but I did see a girl's name who was in my class. I said I'd take care of her.
I called her mother daily to see how they were doing and to ask if they needed anything. They were displaced, had dogs, had children, and their cars were destroyed by the flooding. I offered food and rides. The school gave me gift cards to pass along to my student for her family. I even invited them to our Thanksgiving Turkey Throwdown. My ex and I were competing to see whose turkey would be better (my roasted vs his deep-fried) so I knew there would be more than enough food. They had just lost her father before the storm so they didn't want to celebrate Thanksgiving and declined. Her daughter was a mini-me for Freaky Friday (when students take over for the teacher) and she wrote a poem about her time with me that I still have displayed in my classroom.
Anyway her youngest daughter is going into biology this coming year. Her mom posted on FB that she hopes that she has me as a teacher. It is definitely a possibility and I hope that it works out. I'd love to have another student of hers! It is nice for her to *want* her daughter to have me. Most parents do not because I have high standards and don't put up with crap.

I think she would be a bright star if that was the case.

That is wonderful and I am glad she thinks so highly of you. You always put a lot into your teaching so I hope she gets you as a teacher,
