I am Proud of Her

So, some of you might remember my 12 year old niece, Amyra, was in a contest for drawing. I posted a picture of her drawing of Jesus with the little children sitting around Him, and you probably guessed, she won first place! I appreciated the positive feedback you all gave for it, too. This drawing, of the lion lying down with the lamb, is what she won first place for last year in the competition.
What makes me happy is that she doesn't get upset when she loses. She tried something new with her painting this year (I showed it a few weeks ago) in the district competition, and got third. It didn't affect her outlook at all, and she graciously congratulated the young man who won for his painting.
Do you think you can get into "regular" art these days, and make a decent living? She also thinks she might become a graphic artist, so that's promising too.

That is a terrific drawing, She is really talented I suggest she get through schooling and keep on drawing and she will probably be a great artist one day or she could make good money being an illustrator for books,

@AmbiePam you ask I provide my friend
either way, a career in book illustration can be very lucrative for many talented individuals. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, fine artists – including book illustrators – made an average annual salary of $58,370 in 2018. Some more successful illustrators, however, are able to make much more.

She has a very special talent, I love this sketch.
I hope that she is giving you special sketches autographed so that you have them as a keepsake for when she becomes rich and famous as a result of her talent.
I think that today there are so many avenues open for an artist. And she is still so young, more channels may open up before she is ready for a career, things evolve so much.

Very nice drawing....and third is still great. Being a broke artist, that nobody buys from I can't answer that with much positivity... but maybe she'll do better than I have ever done.

@MommyOfEli2013 I think if more saw it, they would. Your kind of art is fresh enough to want to pay for.

That is some magnificent drawing. I used to be love to draw when I was a kid. after time passed and technology comes forward in drawing on images, I can't barely keep up on drawing. but still love it when I see amazing pencil draw myself.
even my novel is illustrated by pencil draw because I like it so much.

@grantward7 Good luck with it all. I know it might be tough, but it's important to give our dreams a try.
And, thank you for the good wishes for my niece.

Very nice for a 12 year old, even coming in 3rd is awesome. I would say she has a future in the arts.

@AmbiePam Hmm, I didn't know they had such things. Art Institutes yes...but those specializing in graphics only?

@snowy22315 I never thought of it until my sister mentioned it. I think that's more practical, probably, than some of her other art options.

There's always a need for both. If she has a passion for art, then she should consider, both. More opportunities if she expands.

@AmbiePam At the end of the day, it's her choice. But, that's what I'd do.

That's a wonderful drawing. Getting into an artist occupation is so risky. Being a graphic artist is a better choice. Enjoy your day.

I love anything to do with Art, and that drawing is phenom
I'm taking a beginner's Art course online in the Fall. I have zero talent in this field, but I can tell you your niece definitely has a knack for it, and will do VERY WELL in the future if she chooses to make a career of it. She really should.

Amyra did this...It's mind-blowing. She is multi-talented. At such young age, she drew something that most adults can draw. She did a wonderful job.
Oh yes. People pay a lot to get illustrations for children's books. I've joined a group on FB where authors and illustrators work together and I can assure you that everyone needs illustrators. I think she keeps practicing and she will get even better. So far she's already doing a great job. Imagine how good she will get within a few years.
