Florida is becoming an absolute cesspool for education

Florida governor Ron DeSantis has gone all in on culture wars and fighting what he considers "woke" ideology. He bashes and has banned critical race theory (CRT) which isn't taught in K-12 schools. He has encouraged banning books. He has banned an AP high school class about African-American history.
Now his state Department of Education has introduced new guidelines for teaching black history that include the idea that slaves "developed skills which, in some instances, could be applied for their personal benefit." Yup--Florida now wants to teach that slavery was a GOOD thing for African-Americans and it improved their lives.
I would never want to teach or have children educated in Florida or other red states. There is a reason why they rank so low in national studies. This is just one more way that Florida students will be deprived of a well-rounded and solid education.

I'm a Floridian, and a Republican, and this is all complete nonsense. The man has lost his mind. If you don't study history, then you're bound to repeat it. We should be studying and learning about what really happened so that we can ensure it never happens again. Slavery was wrong, plain and simple.

@NJChicaa Hundred percent agree. He really should drop out now and save himself from further embarrassment.

@moffittjc I keep saying that the best GOP candidate at this point is Chris Christie. . . and that is coming from someone who has lived in NJ her whole life and whose salary/pension/medical benefits were severely harmed by him during his tenure as governor.
I don't think RFK Jr. has a serious shot at the Dem nomination but I'd vote for Christie before I'd vote for RFK Jr.

And, yet, I see nothing wrong with this. There's a lot of things that schools shouldn't be teaching and it should be left up to the parents to expose their children.

My daughter lives there with her family. Our two little guys deserve better. I find myself wishing they would just move back here, it's truly a cesspool, as you said. Heartbreaking.
