Enough of these wimpy song that irritated program directors on radio stations. Let’s get to my favorites!! Same idea (usually dumb, such as this one), just the ten I like best. Let’s get going.
#10: No-No Song - Ringo Starr
For a song that has a guy refusing to partake of various recreational illegalities, people sure saw this one the wrong way. It’s not like Hoyt Axton (who wrote Steppenwolf’s “The Pusher”) was pointing out where to buy dime bags.
Oh, wait…maybe that was part of the problem. I’m pretty sure that Nashville didn’t relish the idea of being a place to pick up some moonshine (although you can get that everywhere in Tennessee now), and the DEA didn’t enjoy a big-name star like Ringo mentioning “a ten-pound bag of cocaine” like it was a bag of penny candy.
Most people saw it as a cute song. Some, however, did not; and, even in the more laid-back mid-70s, wouldn’t play it.
No, no, no, I can’t takes these people no more.
No-No Song
Written by Hoyt Axton and David Jackson
Recorded by Ringo Starr
From Goodnight Vienna, 1975
Reason banned: drug references
And he wasn’t joking!

Mine, too. Ringo is also a big fan of the film. That’s one of the reasons people thought the Canadian band Klaatu was actually the Beatles secretly reunited: their name came from The Day the Earth Stood Still.
Michael Rennie was so good looking in that film!

He says “then it makes it hard to find the door.” Later, his brother-in-law comes along and writes a song that says, “it’s hard to leave when you can’t find the door.” Coincidences??????/

I enjoy the song a lot, too. No reason to ban it, unless you’re reading a whole lot into it that simply isn’t there.

Ringo’s solo career wasn’t the best. Heck, his Beatles songs weren’t the best.

Had a great day, and I guess the country vibe (plus the fact that it was written by Hoyt) kept it off your radar.

You can’t go to the pool today because you don’t admit to knowing who the Beatles were.
