We're flying home today, but we've had all kinds of unplanned adventures due to the heavy rains on the US East Coast. Our first connecting flight was canceled just as I was printing out our boarding passes! We got rerouted to a different airport with a slightly later flight, and it seemed that we'd still get home close to our originally scheduled time. Unfortunately the rain traveled with us and while our plane is safe on the ground, the airport ramps are closed due to the weather and no one can get off of the plane yet. This affects ALL of the planes, not just ours, so we're looking at a 3 hour delay for our next flight.

Someday we'll get home!

Yes, we were originally supposed to be connecting in JFK, but they rerouted us to Boston.

Better to deal with an airplane delay due to bad weather than having a terrible incident taking a flight in bad weather which could have terrible consequences.

@spiderdust I have heard the horror stories of sport stars who have been in airports for a long time due to weather delays.

We managed, and the kids were really good about it. The Boston airport also has several play area spots for children, so they got to unwind a little bit after we got off the plane and waited for our next flight.

It's happened before on other flights that I've taken, and it's usually for safety reasons. They're frustrating, but sometimes part of the experience.
