Have you guys ever heard of the FlashFood app? If someone has already mentioned this, I apologize. It is a free app that tells you about grocery stores with food that is close to its best by date, which the store sells to the consumer for up to 50% off (you can select the items you want on the app, and have 24 hours to pick it up). It lessens food waste, and makes the store money they would otherwise be losing out on in a few days. I can hear a few people saying that’s gross. No, not at all. If you don’t want to eat it right away, just put that food in the freezer, and have it later. It’s not expired food. Participating stores include: Meijer, Giant, Price Rite, Family Fare, Giant Eagle, HyVee, Tops, and Martin’s. Right now, it is only for the United States and Canada.
I don’t have any of those stores around me, but I know some of you have mentioned these grocery stores before, so I thought I’d share. I read reviews about the app, and it has a lot of praise. I think you have to have a credit card to use it. If you like a good deal, or are low on income, this might be helpful to you.
Would you use it if it was available near you?

I´d love to have that here. I don´t much buy canned food but I do know that frozen food have no problem if there no electric problem.

We have a program like this in our area.
I am not certain if it is the same one or not.
I had the app, but it was so rare that I received notification that I deleted it.
The only notifications that I received, were followed up within minutes of a notification stating that they have sold all of the items.

We don't have any of those stores around us, either. We do check the clearance aisles in stores when we go shopping, just in case. Sometimes we get really good deals, even at Walmart.

This is a wonderful savings, for customers living on a smaller budget! We have to do things like this, then put sale meats in our freezer for another day. We paid full price at WalMart for cottage cheese. In two days, it was spoiled!

We have a Giant Eagle nearby. I'll have to check it out. Thanks. Enjoy your day. You have to have a smartphone. We only have basic flip phones. :-(

Too Good to Go..I know about which is similar. There is a Martin's in Culpeper but those other stores are not close by at all. I also heard of another one Ollio I think is the name of it, and it is similar.

JJ mentioned the Too Good to Go, and I hadn’t heard of it. I downloaded it, but it looks like not too many places near me participate. Maybe if I keep with it, something will pop up I can use. I actually like the concept of the app you mentioned more than FlashFood.

Argh - we don't have any of those stores out here! I'll have to look up that app and get some details ! I love digging for the deals - and I scour the clearance/reduced items sections everywhere I go. Right - nothing wrong if you cook it up now or freeze it for later.

Not for me, I have no mobile phone and I cannot get to any store since I only have my two feet to take me, Too bad Walmart does not participate since I order my groceries every month from them,

@RasmaSandra So if you needed 911 you could use Text now?

@AmbiePam no landline either, When I need to make a call I use Textnow for free over the Internet. I am considering getting a regular mobile phone but it seems silly to have to pay 10 or 15 a month when I have no one to call.

There are a couple of those stores here. I shop at Hy-Vee every week. Meijer is way across town and too far for me to make the trip worth it gas-wise.
I don't know if it's the same one, but the news carried a food program for people on low income where the prices are low, and the food is still good. There's a special refrigerator in the store for people to get those food items.

I have seen people post about this but do not have those stores. I go in store and there are certain places where you can find "manager's discounts" which are basically the same thing. I used to be self conscious because over half my shopping would be these deeply discounted things, but not anymore.
