I witnessed a crime last night.

My friend and neighbor Bob does flooring. He has a white work van. His daughter is about a year older than Horse Jr. and is with him half of the time.
Last night, just after sunset, I heard the alarm going off on his van. I didn't think much about it. But then I looked out my window and saw an unfamiliar black car directly behind his van. In an instant the car sped off. I couldn't see a plate, but I made a mental note that it was a modern 4-door sedan, with an engine that sounded smooth, not like the "extra loud" engines/mufflers some teenagers drive. One of the back doors to Bob's van was open.
I immediately called 911.
Within three minutes, Bob and I were outside, discussing what had happened. He called 911, and was put on hold. Heh. I told him I had already called 911. He finally got through. He had seen the theft from his apartment as well.
The sheriff came within a few minutes. He talked to Bob and then to me. I learned something new from the sheriff. They don't do finger prints any more. They take samples looking for DNA. He told me it's more expensive, but more effective.
This was not the perp's first rodeo. The whole theft took about 20 seconds. Bob lost a $250 electric saw.
That was my excitement for last night. Photo is of Horse Jr. and Bob's daughter a few years back.

WOW! That was the real thing, not what I watch every day at the several CSIs!!! The picture is beautiful. Send us a follow up one to see how they look now.

Cute photo. I'm sorry about your friend's break-in. Thieves are getting more and more efficient every day.

@LindaOHio And if I shot one in the leg, I'd probably get in trouble. It's frustrating.

@TheHorse Yes, definitely bold. You should watch "Doorbell News" on YouTube sometime. They are ruthless.

How horrible, I am sorry to hear that.
We are having a spate of thefts around here as well. A few weeks ago three cars were stolen, then a week or so ago four bicycles were taken from a garage of a neighbour just down the road, and last night someone else had all their camping gear taken from their garage. And those are just the instances I know about.

@TheHorse We have been very lucky, no thefts so far. Maybe we look like the kind of people who don't have anything worth stealing
Of course we could have a break-in tonight now I've said that.
I don't think 'they' do anything more than issue a crime number, fat lot of use the police are unless you are murdered, which is too late of course.

@wolfgirl569 I do too. But are our prisons too crowded for them to get locked up for awhile?

The kids look great. Well, let that be a lesson to Bob not to keep expensive stuff in his van even if he has to keep them in his apartment. Sorry he got robbed,

@TheHorse then that van needs a really great alarm system of some kind, Too bad he cannot keep a Doberman inside it

@RasmaSandra That would be nice. Perhaps an abused Doberman.
