Golfers who drink while playing are unprofessional

If a golfer has to have any kind of alcoholic drink while he or she plays golf, does that make them a good golfer? In my opinion, NO.
Why impair their play by liquor shots, beer or lite beer imbibing? I have heard some golfers say a drink while playing gives them clarity in their golfing. I think that is dumb. If a player can't play golf without a drink, they are no good in their golfing skills.
I don't know of one professional golfer who drinks while playing in tournaments. And don't remind me about John Daley. He doesn't count. In my opinion, he is a clown.

I've seen too many videos of drunk golfers running their golf carts haphazardly over the courses and hitting other golfers with them. Some even ruin the carts with their wild driving. Enjoy your day.

Yes and I have heard of people being killed or maimed in golf cart accidents/crashes.

@TheHorse I've never heard of anyone killed; but I definitely have seen enough crashes and golfers intentionally running down other golfers to know that there are injuries.

Some people I know would drink while having a friendly game among their peers. All of them drink. But during a tournament? Nope.

You should never drink trying to play a sport. I tried in basketball and ended up throwing up. Not to mention impairs your coordination. I did good at football though, made me brave. In Marines guy like 250 and I was 140 and like oh crap, tackled him way easier than I thought.
People on beach were so amazed but think he was inebriated too so made it easy. We quit because everyone said I was to good but truth is think everyone was to drunk, sure was fun though.

I agree, a good way to lose and a good way to not play as good as as the person could due to being tipsy.

That's how it should be, against the rules.

They need to keep their wits about them when golfing.

I wouldn’t think drinking would be a good idea while playing any sport.

I really don't like anybody drinking excessively in public, most end up acting and looking like butts. But if they are looked up to, they need to take that seriously, especially if kids look up to them. act accordingly. Put on your big boy pants and act like an adult.

I guess any excuse for some people but l would have thought it impaired your judgement but then what do l know. I am sure in professional golf it would be frowned upon??

I think many people who drink while playing golf aren’t doing so to improve their game, but to have some fun while hanging out with their buddies. I think it’s more of a social thing, with the actual game being secondary to the comaraderie

They should never be doing that from the start. On any sport, no one should be drinking.

I would assume that only idiots would do that. The golfers I know love a good drink, but know where and when to have it.

Pro golfers are very committed to being the best they can be. Their future on the tour depends on it. So, I would be surprised to hear of a successful golfer drinking as it would affect their livelihood.
Now, regular golfers that may be another story, but I would bet it does not help their play.

There is nothing professional about drinking while playing. I agree with you.
