An Unreal Day

Wow. Za.
I don’t know what else to say. Today was unreal in its beauty and joy.
I spent the day at Presque Isle State Park, which is in Erie, Pennsylvania. There are no superlatives to describe it.
Lake Erie goes down as the first of the Great Lakes that I’ve taken a boat on. The Lady Kate is a tour boat that took us through the bay and out into the lake. The tour guide said that the dredged inlet was actually deeper than the part of the lake we were on!
The park is enormous, with a dozen different beaches for people to choose from. There’s also the boat ride, boat rentals, and all kinds of bikes to rent in the park.
Just outside is a really cool diner where I had lunch. It deserves its own discussion, because it was so neat.
The photo is one I took from the Lady Kate of Lake Erie.
What a wonderful time!!!

It always blows my mind that the Great Lakes are so big that they actually look like "seas," without all the salt water (and sharks)! I never knew that Lake Eerie was so shallow.

I think it’s the shallowest of the five. Superior is bigger than a few seas!

@moffittjc — oh, it was very smooth on that boat ride. Having said that, look at how many shipwrecks have happened on the Great Lakes. They can be vicious.

@FourWalls Are the Great Lakes much different than being on a real “sea?”

Yes, Lake Erie is very shallow. When the tide is 'out' you can walk quite far and only be knee-deep.

@FourWalls Just try it! I think it gets deeper in the middle.

@BarBaraPrz — at least there aren’t any sharks!

You always wonder why so violent, why can't people just go explore and see amazing things. Sounds much more fun than destroying such neat things.
People go but if I see it, I must own it and I must get all this money because its now mine.
Its no ones fool. You just renting and this was here way before you and will be after. You should feel happy you just got to see what all the years of pain staking punishment the earth took for you to see that prettiness and allowed you to see it. People so stupid and inconsiderate.
Thanks miss lady for showing us the coolness.

You’re so right. The tour guide was talking about how polluted Lake Erie used to be. Now it’s much better.
And you’re also correct that anyone who’s mad, instead of counting to ten, should go sit by a lake or walk in a forest.

@LadyDuck — the tour guide said there’s enough water in the lakes to cover the entire contiguous US in ten feet of water.

And it’s not even the greatest of the Great Lakes!

@FourWalls My son recently moved to another city in Indiana, but he used to live less than a block from Lake Michigan, and I live in the Finger Lakes Region of NY, just a few hours east of Lake Erie and south of Lake Ontario. We love being so close to the Great Lakes.

Erie is my hometown. I love Presque Isle and go there almost every time I visit. Last time I went to the Tom Ridge Center for only the second time. We went on one of the boat tours for my parents 50th...Lots of people came from out of town. It was a gorgeous day like Erie often has in the summer.

How did we go to Presque Isle and not find out about the Lady Kate? I did all kinds of research. I'm glad you had such a good time. Lovely photo. Onward and upward! Drive safely and enjoy your day.
