We all probably learned when we were young that milk was good for strong bones and healthy muscles, hearts, and nerves. Adults run the risk of osteoporosis if they don't get the calcium they need. The experts say children 1 to 3 need 700 milligrams daily, and those 14 to 18 need 1,300 milligrams. Men and women need about 1,000 milligrams daily.
Normally whole milk is fortified with vitamin D and it naturally contains Calcium, Phosphorous, Potassium, Magnesium, Riboflavin, and Vitamin B12. But, nowadays you can get A2 Milk, Almond Milk, Banana, Cashew, Coconut, Cow's, Goat's, Lactose-free, Low fat, Flax, Hazelnut, Hemp, Macadamia, Oat, Pea, Pistachio, Soy, Spelt, Quinoa, and Walnut.
The Academy of Pediatrics does recommend that children between ages 1 and 2 should consume whole cow's milk. Other types of milk during that time could cause could lead to nutritional deficiencies.
It is important to note that it is difficult to give a recommendation toward any certain type of milk. If you enjoy one type of milk check to be sure it has the calories, protein, and vitamins that you need.

I love milk but I'm lactose intolerant. So it's either soy or almond milk for me.

Check into goats milk. It has more nutrients and many people can drink it that are lactose intolerant

I agree. I was brought up on whole milk and can't stand skim.

But apparently it has more calcium? That's what I read somewhere.

@BarBaraPrz Maybe to do with the lack of fat? I’m just guessing, of course.

Non normal milk drinker here. I've always been a big milk drinker. I like the stuff. I drink it after a hard day of work or heavy lifting. Normally, I go through at least a gallon a day by myself. I never thought it would be perfectly normal for me to treat a gallon of milk like it is a glass but here I am. Expensive yet tasty habit. I don't know if owning a cow would be cheap since I would have to feed it and a gorilla (me).

I really like the stuff too. Having a cow shouldn't be too expensive.

My sister drinks soy milk, now she has osteoporosis. Apparently, it doesn't have the high amount of calcium, like cow's milk.

@celticeagle I drank almond milk for a short while, it's just OK. On cereal? NOPE! Not OK.

I like milk but don't buy it. It tends to go bad too quickly.

I don't care for milk. I take a calcium supplement and also D3 for a deficiency. When we use milk for cooking, we use either regular milk or soy. I am lactose intolerant; but I have pills that I can take with dairy. Enjoy your day.
