And shouldn't be.
I was listening to the news this morning about water toxicity. We all know water is good for us, but did you know it can also kill you if you drink too much of it?
There are four times in my life when I faced death, all at my own hands. I was not trying to kill myself. Far from it.
The first time was when I was five years old. I was at my grandparent's home. I saw the extension cord on the floor and plugged one end into my mouth. The other end was plugged into the socket. I don't know how long it took before my mother got it out of my mouth. I remember seeing thick gray clouds behind my eyes.
The second time was when I burned myself in a stove explosion. I was supposed to bake a cake before my parents got home from a political rally. We had a gas stove that needed to be lit by a match. I turned on the gas and looked for the matches. Fifteen minutes later I remembered I had the gas on in the oven and turned it off for ten seconds. Lit the match on the burner and opened the oven door. I was in the hospital for three days with first and second degree burns.
The third time, I was driving cross country in our new van. The kids were asleep in the back and my husband was asleep in the seat next to me. It was night. I fell asleep at the wheel. I woke up inches away from the guard rail on a very steep cliff in Arizona. My guardian angels were hard at work that night. I then stopped every one hundred yards along the highway until I got to a rest stop. In the morning, my husband took over driving and drove into San Diego where he needed to report for duty.
The fourth time was a couple of years ago. I had drunk too much water and didn't realize it. But that wasn't why I was in the ER. I was in the ER because I had severe leg cramps which turned out to be a blood clot. My doctor told me I didn't have any sodium in my system and asked me how much water I had drunk that day. I was parched and kept drinking. I told him I had eight bottles of water. He told me not to drink more than three bottles of water a day. I could have died because of the lack of sodium in my system.
The news report this morning told about a young girl who died because she drank three bottles of water in twenty minutes and washed all the sodium from her body.
I'm alive to tell about it. How about you? Are you alive and shouldn't be? Thanks for reading. The image belongs to me. It's me at five years old.

I'm glad you're still with us.
I drowned when I was 18 years old. I went swimming in the Arkansas river and the current was too strong for me. I remember being dragged under, fighting until I couldn't fight anymore and gave up. It hurt when I took the first breath of water but then was peaceful... I remember thinking it wasn't so bad being carried along under the water. One of my friends pulled me out and gave me mouth-to-mouth. By the time paramedics arrived, I was breathing on my own and they told my friend he'd saved my life.

All of those sound like scary situations....but that is good that you are alive to tell us about them! I guess I could say that I am too, a couple times my blood sugar got dangerously low which can be deadly, I was unresponsive and went to the ER.

@just4him I am not always glad to still be alive....but that is good that the first time my uncle rushed me to the hospital (and it was in a different town) and then the 2nd time the ambulance got me.
