I watched half of Hamilton with my friends last night. Have you seen that movie?

After our steak dinner last night, we watched the first half of Hamilton. I had heard good things about Hamilton, but it was painful for me to watch. Much of the dialogue was "rapped," and I cannot stand "rap." I found the choreography to be boring and the music to be simplistic and repetitive. I'd much rather watch (the original) Lion King (Hamlet with cute lions) again. But Nataly, the female half of the couple I dined with, loves the movie and had done her due diligence about the story behind it. She is actually from Africa, but is interested in American history. I enjoyed it when we paused the movie and discussed what was happening as the American Revolution unfolded. I will try to avoid watching the second half, but I hope Nataly can tell me "who won." Have you seen Hamilton?

Yes I have. It came as a play in Playhouse Square, a famous theatre in my city. And the actors were the same ones performing in NY too I think. I was kinda at the back, but the play was mind blowing. I usually don't like too much rap too, but there voices and acting killed it. I am sorry u did not enjoy it that much. Maybe another movie! but maybe if u watch it as a live play, u would love it!

No. No interest. I hear Hamilton gets shot by Raymond Burr. Or something like that.

Raymond Burr. Did he play for the Yankees?

@TheHorse — he backed up Yogi Berra, I think. But Yogi already had a back so he didn’t play much.

@TheHorse — no that was Bill Buckner in 1986, and he was with the Red Sox.

I must admit I loved Hamilton. I'm not a huge fan of rap, but I do like some of it - I got a kick out of history being meshed with modern sound in a musical. I get my thrills karoke-ing the songs .

I saw Hamilton on Broadway. Paid about $200 a ticket, which was the cheapest price at the time I think. Loved it! Didn't know there was a movie too.

@TheHorse Ticket prices for that show were ridiculous. Tickets were resold for high hundreds or even for thousands of dollars.

Not seen this film or the stage version, but I did catch a documentary about the Whiskey Rebellion. Heard of it, but had no idea what was involved. Quite fascinating. It sounds as if Hamilton almost tore the fledgling United States apart and in the aftermath was determined to exact revenge on those who stood up against his tax. Seeing him in a slightly different light now

It is the same Hamilton that was on Broadway. The rap made it hard for me to watch it. But at least I got a bit of a history lesson.

I was really disappointed. I wonder why it has become such a hit. As a history lesson, it may be good, but the music and dancing were not interesting to me.
