Ear piercing here in India is almost a custom. It is done when the baby is one year old. A piece of the broom stick is inserted in the hole for some time for the whole to remain It is then pulled out and replaced by tiny earrings. The holes in the ear get wider as one ages and some even stitch them up. I have issues with it and so I cannot wear certain earrings as they just hang. I have no plans to stitch up the holes. Do you have this custom where you live What about you? Image credit:
Getting your little girl’s (or boy’s) ears pierced by some stranger is definitely not a desirable experience and there’s surely no easy way. Adding to all th

When Pretty was around one and a half years old, we took her to a salon and had her ears pierced. We told her it would be a little owie and then it would be over. With her first ear, she looked startled and the salon tech put a "starter" earing in and moved to the other ear. Pretty acted like she didn't even notice the second piercing but she loved the little studs in her ears. We only had to tell her a couple of times to leave them alone. Now, she's got multiple ear piercings in each ear.

Here what you call as 'starter' is a piece of a broomstick as that is the softest. Would love to see Pretty's ears as of now with loads of trinkets all over there (lol)

@DaddyEvil I think that broom stick dries up and that is the time the ear too is ready for a pair of ear rings - just saying I only want to see Pretty's ear (lol)

@allknowing What was put into Pretty's ear was a tiny gold stud. She doesn't like pictures taken.

My parent's wouldn't let me get my ears pierced until high school. My Japanese girl friends here also said similarly. We were so thrilled to pierce our ears when we were finally allowed to - we didn't think it was painful. I am glad it was my choice to do it . . . my daughter does not want to get her ears pierced and that's fine.

We got our daughter's ears pierced at the age of 14 years. I was always afraid of how she will bear the pain but at this age, she asked herself to get it done.

I think the jeweller has the talent to piece a kid's ears without causing any pain.

I see earrings in a lot of a my Latina girls. I don't know if it's a custom, though.

@TheHorse Then probably it could be a custom as babies that old would only have their ears pierced if it is customary in that country - just my guess

i am Indian. But they did mine when I was four. I still remember the pain I had to endure. My first real life pain lol. And no it is not for custom, just that they wanted so I can wear earrings. And no brromsticks, they directly had a small tiny loop ring on me lol.

One needs to have a thick loop ring for the size of the hole to stay.

I wasn’t allowed to get my ears pierced until I was ten years old. My sister got her oldest daughter’s ears pierced at the age of two, but Amyra didn’t like someone messing with her ears so the holes eventually closed back up.

That happens. If earrings are not worn the holes close up but they can always be opened and this time with less effort.

Ear piercing is only done if the parents want to do it for a baby or a girl of any age.

I doubt if any parent here would have a child whose ears are not pierced.

I got my ears pierced as a teenager because pierced earrings were in fashion. Now I still have a lot of earrings of all kinds and have no place to wear them. I just wear some small earrings types at home.

We have it in India but modern mothers don't insist. My ears were pierced when I was 3 or 4. My mother-in-law and husband wanted me to pierced my nose and did it and made me wear a nose pin. However it didn't work. I got eruption on my nose and had to remove the nose pin.

No such customs here. I pierced my ears when I was 25, I got infection. Since then, I don't wear earrings.

here the majority of ears are pierced at birth and the reason may be so girls don't feel pain when they get pierced as adults. then put earrings on girls.
