Grass Valley but which one?

If the photo loads, it’s of one tiny section of the Christmas shop we visited. I wanted to do some washing a few days ago but the weather is looking very iffy. So I googled the weather for Grass Valley and came up with some very weird temperatures in Fahrenheit. Eventually I woke up enough to realise they’re talking Grass Valley, California. There are a great many place names which occur over and over in different countries. I remember seeing Melbourne as someone’s home town but later realised it was in Florida. As might be expected we have a lot of names in common with Great Britain. I often get caught that way as we seem to have many towns with similar names. However, I haven’t found another Yabberup yet.

Yes - all year round although it might close on Good Friday. Almost all shops do although not as many as used to.

I would think it is an aboriginal name but I can't find out what it means. The Christmas shop is in Toodyay which is aboriginal for 'mist' which is very appropriate.

Australia has some really 'odd to me' city and town names like Yabberup. But a lot of the city/town names here in the US are more or less the same as is found in England or Germany and then we too have some strange names not found elsewhere.

Some of our aboriginal names are very strange-sounding like some of your native American names.

You could barely get between the rows of merchandise. Stock-taking would be a nightmare.

There were alleys and nooks everywhere. I lost Vince at least twice.

The United States has a Paris, Texas, so you can add that one to the list of confusing city locations. Yay, your picture showed up, and it’s a good one. I wonder if the shopkeeper gets nervous about having little kids around. Maybe by now, the nervousness is gone.

There is a sign outside asking that children be supervised, no food or drink, carry dogs if you bring them in, so they try to cover a few bases.

There was a Christmas store in Colorado that was open all year and busy all year to. That picture is really nice.

This is just a tiny portion. I'd hate to have to do the stock-taking at this place.

Thanks. I enjoyed walking through the shop. In the end, I bought some Christmas cards that will benefit the Salvation Army.

One crazy thought is that there is a Panama City Florida which is often confused with the capital of Panama which is Panama City as well as a neighbor in the capital that is called San Fransisco.

@JudyEv That is true since I have noticed that some cities in America share the same name in Europe or Latin America.

We have a few strange names, Dirt Cellar, Sand Town, Brown Town, Cold Springs, Split Junction. Hegwoods Hollow. Makes you wonder how they came by those names

Those are strange indeed. We have an area called 'Useless Loop' and a 'Lake Disappointment'. They convey a lot of meaning in their names.
