Therapy made me feel angry

I changed my therapist and I chose a woman. She keeps asking me questions again and again. I am depressed and so tired of answering questions. She doesn't seem to read my answers. She keeps asking and asking. I had three sessions with questions. I was so angry that I wanted to tell her that I will give up. I can't continue. Maybe this therapy isn't right for me.

That is pretty normal. Until you’ve been a patient awhile, she’s probably going to ask you what sounds like the same questions. Her goal is to get you to figure some things out on your own, so she most likely isn’t going to tell you what to do. She’s hoping you’ll start to figure these things out on your own by asking leading questions. I know it can be frustrating, and it might take a little time before you see results.

@dya80dya You can’t find the answers until you change your thinking, which is what she is trying to get you to do by asking questions. And, it’s okay if you don’t have all the answers. But she doesn’t want to offer solutions that only help for awhile, and only by answering difficult questions can you start to figure some things out. She wants to give you the tools to see real change throughout your life. If you continue to have problems with her you can change therapists, but you might end up not like anyone if you have a problem with a lot of questions. Certainly, she may not be the one for you, but have you told you the questions are making you upset? She might try to find another way to try to communicate although some questions will always have to be asked.
I remember my aha moment with one of my counselors. I couldn’t see where she was leading me for the life of me, but one day it was just like things started making sense. I still have to be on medication, but my thinking became so much clearer. And I was like, why didn’t I see this before now?!

I am too depressed to help myself now. If she isn't offering solutions why should I pay her? I couldn't even answer those questions. I need help. If I can find the answers on my own I don't need a therapist. There were some difficult questions. Other therapists offered me some solutions and they helped for a while.

@AmbiePam She wants me to complete surveys. My answers aren't even read by her. I am not sure what to do. She just reads some difficult questions. Those surveys are difficult and impersonal. I don't have a problem with questions if they are personal. I forgot to mention that this is psychoanalytic therapy.

Are you able to request a new therapist to work with? The first time I finally decided to go to therapy for my stress and anxiety, the first one I got matched with was the same - I don't mind answering questions, but I noticed that it's the same questions which I already answered prior. On the fourth session, I ended it earlier than our schedule and requested to be matched with a new one. The second therapist that I got matched with proved to be a better match.

@Raine38 How was your second therapist different from the first? Like what did the second therapist do differently?

Not all therapists are a good fit. I would bring up your concerns about questions and surveys and ask when the therapy is going to begin. I understand what you are saying enough is enough. I think you need someone who is going to listen to you and your concerns. Don't quit though, if she isn't the one for you, there are plenty of good therapists out there.

I do not know but I think if those were routine questions that they would usually ask their patients. But I guess if you are not comfortable with your therapist you should start looking for a new one that could understand you better and give you what you want in your sessions with them.

Sorry you feel depressed, do you know what's making you feel depressed?

That's unethical for a therapist. It annoys. Better you keep your composure.
