Funny Songs: Ain’t We Crazy

As that late, great sage and poet, Jimmy Buffett, said, “If we weren’t all crazy we would go insane.” In honor of the Mayor of Margaritaville I dedicate today’s song that was specifically designed to make you laugh. You won’t remember this one, but I hope you enjoy it. Ain’t We Crazy - Harry McClintock If you’ve seen O Brother, Where Art Thou then you’ve heard Harry “Haywire Mac” McClintock. His recording of “Big Rock Candy Mountain” opens the film. Other than that, you’re probably out of luck. Heck, he died before I was born, and this song was recorded a year before my GRANDPARENTS got married! It’s a silly ditty, filled with outrageous contradictions and puns (“‘Holy smokes!’ the preacher shouted”; “the bumble bees were making bums”). Joan Javits (who co-wrote “Santa Baby”) and Charles Grean borrowed heavily (read: stole) from this song for their tune “Crazy Mixed-Up Song.” No need to take notes, for the test tomorrow was yesterday. Ain’t We Crazy Written by Harry McClintock Recorded by Harry McClintock Released as a single, 1928 Lived in a house across the street above a vacant lot:

I think it was you that introduced me to California Promises and I must have played it dozens of times since. RIP

I do not press play twice on other peoples music often. No disrespect we like what we like, but I too think I have listened to that song 10 times already. It fits with these times if you think about it and I love punk music, would make a real cool punk song jazzed up.

Not the least bit surprised that you didn’t know this one. Having a nice weekend, nice and quiet and staying home. Hope you’re having a relaxing weekend as well.

@FourWalls Hope you are having a good weekend too. Yup. Nothing going on here. I should do some shredding. I have a huge pile. Not my favorite chore.

@FourWalls It sounds like something my late grandfather would have sang to me.

Love the mishmash of contradictions (“a barefoot boy with shoes on”).

As a single in 1928. That made me laugh, old music is cool. I was like they did singles in 1928.

I love the nonsense verses. Such fun. The funniest thing to me was on the record label. Victor Talking Machine Co.
