Poordom hits again! The vinyl fence is installed, and now the people next door don’t have to get dressed in 18 layers when it’s 20 degrees outside to let their monster dog out to do his business. While I contemplate those monthly payments I’ll tickle your funny bone with another song that’s meant to make you laugh. Hopefully you will.
Dolly Parton’s Hits - Bobby Braddock
Many polls list George Jones’ tearjerker “He Stopped Loving Her Today” as “the greatest country song.” People who don’t know much about country music know Tammy Wynette’s “D-I-V-O-R-C-E.”
The man who wrote both of those classics is Hall of Famer Bobby Braddock.
And he wrote this.
Oh, yeah, Braddock has a great sense of humor. An early Statler Brothers song (which I keep thinking I saw Flatt & Scruggs do on The Beverly Hillbillies when I was a kid) was called “You Can’t Have Your Kate and Edith, Too,” and that was a Braddock song.
But this takes the Kate…ahem, cake. This was probably inspired by a 1982 MacLean & MacLean song called “Dolly Parton’s T*ts” (great opening line: “I’d like to see the coyote eat the Road Runner” ). Instead of going for the “obvious” in the MacLean & MacLean song, Braddock made it full of puns and double entendres (“everybody knows ‘Jolene’ and ‘Here You Come Again.’ What a pair!”).
We always have jokes about Dolly. She even got in on the act in a Letterman top ten (the number one pet peeve of hers is “Nobody notices I’ve got a great ass, too” ). Why shouldn’t one of the great songwriters in country music history have a laugh or two with her as well?

I have a long list from when I watched her on Porter Wagoner’s show. Named one of my cars after a song of hers.

She’s accepted her role. She even makes jokes about losing Dolly Parton look-alike contests to drag queens!

The payments sting; but you will enjoy your new fence so much. Saw the pic. Looks so nice. Don't know this song. Have a wonderful day.

“Country Music Hall of Famer” sort of tipped me off that you wouldn’t.

I grew up with country music so I saw her every week on Porter Wagoner’s show.

They do. And, as Robert Frost wrote, “good fences make good neighbors.”

Bobby Braddock has a great sense of humor. And, of course, so does Dolly.
