Hurray, I Wrote Another Hub for Hubpages

United States

Ugh, I have such a hard time getting motivated to write hubs on Hubpages. As time goes on, they get more and more picky about the type of articles they want. And it can be very challenging. So I try to avoid it, even though my goal is and always has been to have 300 hubs published. I started writing on Hubpages in January of 2012. It was the first time I ever got paid for writing and I was absolutely thrilled! I have 259 hubs (articles) published which means I only have 41 more to publish before I reach my goal. Every year I set a goal to reach 300 published hubs and of course, I never make it. Some years I have done well by challenging myself to write 10 hubs in 10 days or 30 hubs in 30 days but since they have become sticklers for better articles, which is within their right of course, it's harder to write good articles that quickly. My goal for 2023 was to write and publish 10 hubs. On September 6th I published my first hub of the year. Hm, I think I am behind on my goal! Do you write on Hubpages and if so, how many articles do you have published?

@Kouponkaren . The Admin before me made a discussion asking that people include links (not referral links, of course) to earning sites they discuss.

Wow, that's cool. When I first saw you had commented on this @GoAskAlice I thought I might have done something wrong. Phew! :0)

I have never been on Hubpages. I should go check it out.

@AmberPam Yes, you can make money there, but not many people make a LOT and they do require a lot out of an article. They want a minimum of 800 - 1,200 words, photos, polls, etc included. I love it when I get paid. Payout is $50. I only get paid a few times per year.

@Kouponkaren Oh, I just wanted to read what they had. I wouldn’t be good at writing articles.

I wrote on HubPages for years but fiction doesn't do well there. I published about 80-90 stories, both single episodes and serialized novellas. At the rate I was earning, it would have taken me 50 years or more to make payout. I began pulling my work from HubPages and migrating it to Vella and Medium. Vella is much more fiction-oriented, as are several of the publications on Medium. I've already made more on both of those sites than I would have made spending years more on HubPages. https://www.amazon.com/kindle-vella

@Kouponkaren Medium has a free level and a paid level. To be part of the partner program and earn money, you have to join at the paid level. So far, my monthly payout has exceeded my monthly fee. Kindle Vella is a site for publishing longer stories in a serialized format.

I wrote for Squidoo and stopped writing when they sold their site to Hugpages, it's a site I never liked.

@Kouponkaren I liked Squidoo and I was sad to know the site was sold. I deleted all my "lenses" (this is how they called the articles) and went to Bubblews.

@LadyDuck I have heard of Squidoo but only after I had already started writing at HubPages and people were moving over. I always thought it was a funny name. :0)

@LadyDuck Oh no, you deleted them all? Did it make you feel sad that all you had written was lost? Was it a site more like Bubblews where you could just talk about your day? Or more article-based?

I have never used Hubpages. They accused me of plagiarizing another user's content which is strange because I never signed up for that site. I earned my first online writing money on Helium, which folded a couple of years after I got there. Congratulations on having something published on Hub again,

@akalinus What? That's crazy...how could they accuse you of plagiarizing if you never write on there? That must have been a long time ago?

@Kouponkaren It was and I just ignored it. I never plagiarize but I used to write under different pen names. I think someone plagiarized my work. I don't know. Nothing ever came of it.

@akalinus People have plagiarized my work from HubPages also. So annoying. Dishonest people really bother me.

Haven't got that much dedication or flair to write for hubpages, but it is motivating to see that you set such a high goal for writing in that site, and you are a writer for such a long time there

@Sojourn I was much more active in my earlier years there. The one thing I really like about it is that it's residual income so for instance I hadn't written anything there at all this year, but still reached payout twice based on things I have written over the past 11 years.

@Kouponkaren Oh that's interesting. Do you use the same name on there?

@Fleura When I first started writing for them I still had my kids living at home with me (they are grown now) so I wrote a lot about parenting, saving money on groceries, etc. Then when my husband and I started to travel and go on cruises, I wrote a lot about that. I still write about travel and the one I wrote last night was about my eBay business.

I am registered at hub pages but had never made any article there. What's your favourite content topic.

@Kouponkaren That's very interesting. I've never experienced being in a cruise ship. You should write about your experiences as only few have experienced it.

@florelway Probably writing about cruises and doing reviews of cruise ships. I love to cruise so I also love to write about my experiences.
