"Wah-Watusi" was written by Kal Mann and Dave Appell and released by The Orlons in 1962. It reached #2 on the U.S. pop chart and #5 on the R&B chart. It was the biggest hit of the Orlons' career and sold over a million copies, giving it gold disc status. The Watusi was one of the most popular dances of the 60s. The name may have come from the 1950 movie "King Solomon's Mines" in which the Tutsi dancers were featured or in the sequel, "Watusi". Several singers/groups covered this song...even Annette the ex-Mouseketeer. Her version was released in 1964 but did not chart. Good song, it was a great dance song back when we'd have sock hops.

El Paso was so behind the times, it was 1965 when my school hosted a sock hop and from what I've read sock hops were supposed to be a part of the 1950s.

@rebelann One local radio station in the 60s had sock hops. They were the only ones I heard about.

I watched the clip. How dated it seems nowadays. Love the clothes and hair-styles too.
