Do you remember Charlie McCarthy?

No, he wasn't the Senator from the 1950s who thought everyone who actually believed in the First Amendment was a communist. Charlie McCarthy was a real dummy. A ventriloquist's dummy, that is. He and Edgar Bergman, father of Candace Bergen, were quite a famous pair throughout most of the 20th Century. The pair had a long-running radio show sponsored by Chase & Sanborn Coffee. The shows play frequently on Sirius/XM's Radio Classics Channel 148. Radio Classics plays a wide variety of the old detective shows, comedies, and other fare from the Golden Age of Radio. Do you enjoy listening to old radio shows?

Not personally, but I have seen tape of course. I seem to remember an appearance though on the old Art Linkletter show. You may be too young to remember that.

I remember Art Linkletter as the host of Password. I may have seen the Art Linkletter Show in its later years, but don't remember it.

@DWDavis ? I didn't know he ever hosted Password. Are you sure you don't mean Alan Ludden?

@snowy22315 I probably do mean Alan Ludden. Was he the one married to Betty White?

I have bought a few tapes of Radio Classics when we used to visit your country. We do no listen to radio anymore.

@DWDavis I have that as part of my sartelie TV package, but not in the car. Lately, I have been listening to the Margaritaville station that plays only Jimmy Buffet. I had no idea he was so prolific...I was a fan, but hadn't heard most of what they play on there.

K and I listen almost exclusively to Sirius/XM radio. The exception is our radio/alarm clock.

I’ve listened to a number of The Green Hornet radio shows. Red Skelton’s museum in Vincennes, Indiana had a great display of his radio days and radio programs in general. And yes, I remember Charlie McCarthy. And Chase & Sanborn Coffee!

I prefer some of those old radio shows to the tripe and drivel they serve up on TV these days.

I remember Charlie McCarthy very well. No I don't listen to old radio shows. My hubby remembers listening to serials on the radio every day. Have a good day.
